That 570 gr bullet is to long for an 18 twist, and might not even do to well in a 16 twist as far as any usefulness as a target round. 535-540 gr bullets win matches day in and day out, and if a person is shooting a traditional profiled bullet will kill anything on this planet.
Gong matches are a lot of fun, but gaging any accuracy from shooting one, based on the number of hits you get isn't being very honest with yourself. Mostly because after the first relay it's dang near impossible to tell where your bullet strike was.

Yes the Gong shoots are fun. I like them better then the creedmoor type matches. But you can still see where the lead splatters dance in the white dot of around it and I judge how I did by looking the names under my final placement.
I used the 19 twist at the Lodi Wis long range matches several times and I used either the GG Brooks postell at 500 plus grains and of all things I used a fireworks powder that was very heavy with fouling LOL and it shot very well till I got out of the pits to shoot the 900 when a misty fog settled in that made seeing the 900 almost impossible even taking the front insert out and unscrewing the eye cup to use a ghost ring to let more light through. Below is a paper target record of my .44-90 Shiloh 19 twist using the original 500 plus grain round nosed profile swaged cup based bullet.
Splatters on iron or holes in paper at a match is just luck of the draw on what conditions are. Accuracy is the final outcome on your standing on the leader boards. Shooting a sub MOA group through paper developing loads I'm sure most of us have done this. I look at accuracy on where I finish at a match paper or iron. When I fail it's not my rifle or spotter.....it's me that failed my rifle and spotter.

By the way, That postell is the same bullet you shot with my .44 at the Alliance 1000 yard iron. I have to dig that mould out and see how long that bullet is. It shoots well in the .44-77 also.

Well I know of one example at a gong match that the top two shooters on 1000 yard target , one had two misses, and the other only had one, problem is the shooter with one miss had 3 of those hits that the bullet actually ricocheted off of the berm of the next nearest target and hit the 1000 yard target... Not much accounting for accuracy in a gong match, someone uses the whole target to get a perfect score, gets the same perfect score as a shooter that kept the bulk of the hits in the white.

I had Brooks make a 480 gr grease groove bullet with the original postel shape, it shoots well from the 44-77 to 800, beyond that it's a crap shoot. Had him make another that drops at 455 gr, 1.29 inches long and it shoots fine all the way to the 1k line. That 1.29 length is the exact same as a bullet pulled from an original Sharps 44-77 creedmoor round.

I had Brooks make me a.44 creedmoor bullet with first 2 bands reduced to bore diameter ,485 grains and it shoots well in my 44-70,18 twist GM barrel on a roller. 70 grains of 1.5 OE,.030 WALTERS wad.

I want to make a 44-90 made with starline brass, I ran a new 2.4 case into my 40-70Maynard die and it did not hit and formed a nice case with a .650 long neck.
Would anyone have a print of this cartridge,when I look for 44-90 its based on a different case.

Bill which .44-90 are you asking about? the .44-90 Rem sp, .44-90 sharps bn or the .44-90 rem St.? I take it with the .44-70 maynard die your asking about the straight? all the BN cases pretty much have a around .517" base if you are talking the BN case there is just the .44 basic by the old Bell brass that I know of.

Kurt, it will probably be a new round, all the 44 's that I've seen have been based of the bigger case and I
want to use a .500 case like a 45-90 and probably Starline.
Ive got a couple of money bullet moulds that came with a gun that are .500 long and wont shoot in my .44's because they have .450 long necks. Plus I have an extra .44 barrel
I just wondered if anyone was using 45 -90 Starline brass to make a .44 caliber rifle.

A .44 with a .500 base is a good way to go. I have never seen a 2.4" 44 straight in the books. It would be like a wild cat to have a .44-2.4
I have a .44-75 Ballard chamber in one of my CPA that is a 2.5 long case that I use 2.6 Starline cases for. It is a fine caliber that does everything a .45-70 to .45-2.4 will do. Maybe other's
