RE: 44-77 44-90?
10-4 on the 570 Don, haven't stretched it out much, but it's dead nuts on out to 400 yards in my 18 twist 45-110, is it's nose shape what you're calling traditional?

Thank You,
Gunner

RE: 44-77 44-90?
Kurt,

I may give a #3 Sporter '74 Shiloh 19 twist 44-90 BN a whirl, shotgun butt, traditional fore end, 30" barrel, I'll see what I can get done as far as hunting with a 460 ish grain paper patch bullet, parallel sided with about a quarter inch flat meplat.

Finding brass and dies may be a real deal of a problem.

Thanks for the info,

Gunner

Here's an example of the more traditional nose shape.

And here's an original bullet pulled from a 44-77 sharps creed moor round.
1.29 inches long .438 diameter and weighs in at 453 grains.

Nice, when I started out shooting my first Sharps, the .458" 540 gr Creedmoor bullets cast 20 to 1 were the first ones I loaded and hunted with, only shot one small WT buck I had rattled in to 6 yards, he nearly ran over me, bought those bullets lubed sized and ready to load up at Sagebrush.

I had mine made with 2 bands reduced to .438 ,the chamber has only a .050 leade and as usual Steve got it on the head.

RE: 44-77 44-90?
That's a dang good bullet for a greaser to be sure. My 44 shiloh's shoot it lights out to 800 but it's just a tad long to hold up past that distance consistently. When I had him shorten the next one to just under 1.3 it shoots well to the 1k line. That nose also hammers silhouettes like crazy.
I had him cut me a dual diameter paper patch nose pour adjustable for the 45's. It shoots real well in the CPA, my higwall shoots it ok but nothing to get wound up about, I haven't shot it much in the 110 but it looks like there may be some possibilities with it.
I'ld like to have him do another one for the 40's but I haven't came up with the base measurement that I think will be just right yet..

RE: 44-77 44-90?
Bill here is a drawing I was going to go with that is on a 2.4" brass but the case length not being of a original length or ever made for the old single shot rifles I could find and I thought it might be a problem using it for a sanctioned NRA match so I went with the .44-75 Ballard that has a 2.5" long case
This one all you would have to do with a 2.4 Starline case is run it through the sizing die like a .44 Maynard and load and fire.
For the .44-75 Maynard I had a special reamer made for making a proper seizing die for it.
