Antelope and deer
Day 1 is over. Wind was blowing a gale this morning so I didn't go out until this afternoon.
Had a chance at a little buck antelope at about 70 yds, but he was just a youngun and the season is just getting warmed up.
Found a real good buck all by hisself, but he was camped out on a bald ridge where he could see for a long ways... Got with in about 275 just at dusk but decided to pass on the shot.
Only sign of a deer as a couple junipers that had been rubbed..
Tommorrow is another day.Big Grin

Maybe that ol' buck will be within range today.

Best of luck,

RE: Antelope and deer
Had a big dissappointment today. Had a buck antelope at 142 yds broadside, shot hit him, the hit rolled him and layed him out flat. He kicked about twice got on his feet and we never did catch up with him again. Bloodtrail went about 20 yds and then completely quit.
Missed another buck, (maybe the same one a couple hours later), but did center punch a skunk at 100 yds...

Sounds like you hit it in the back straps Don??? Maybe??? Did you get a look at the buck when it ran off to see where it was bleeding? Dang it, I feel for ya Don, it's a bad feeling!

Stephen I didn't get a good look at the blood but it appeared to be on the near side shoulder, but the blood trail started with blood splatter on both sides, then moved to the near side and then just quit. The way he hit the ground I thought sure he was dead... Wondering if like you say , high in the back or maybe just across the brisket. Blood was a bright red color but not frothy.

Definitely not lung then! The reason I thought high in the back is the way he dropped! Well hopefully you will get another shot at him!

It was quite a shock to look up from reloading the rifle and see him running off over the ridge. I mean that bullet lifted him right off his feet and he hit the ground flat on his side... Would sure like to find him , and get him down for good. Carol says maybe a ghost antelope and not supposed to die... She couldn't believe he got up and ran off either, she thought she was going to have to take pictures....

Listen for the coyote's songs in the morning. You'll find that buck.
