RE: Antelope and deer
Don.
I hit a buck one time with the .58 high in the shoulder once and that ball went right through both shoulder blades missing his spine. That ball knocked him sideways on the ground and just about rolled him over when he landed. By the time I crossed the creek and got up to the top of the bank he was gone.
The last thing I saw before the smoke covered him up was that he dipped down like they do when they are spooked to set their hoofs to jump sideways. I dont know if he heard the cap pop or saw the flash that made him bolt because I was a little over 100 yards away and he was walking slow when I took the shot.
There was a lot of hair and very little blood on the snow but I waited about 45 minutes and I started to track him and after a while I spotted him on the side of the hill with his head just above the weeds looking at me about 250 300 yards away and no way to work my way to him to get a shot with the muzzleloader at that range with a round ball so I made my way back to the creek where I crossed and worked my way down the creek below the banks till I was with in range to take the shot again through the neck from 75 yards.
But that first ball went through both blades and very little blood.
With out the snow I might not have found him again.

The reason a dog has so many friends is because he wags his tail instead of his tongue.

RE: Antelope and deer
one always hopes for a one shot kill on game with the alternative thought that the miss be clean.
