A couple new friends
This is what followed me home this year.

I picked up a 95 Marlin .45-70 CB and this 93 Marlin .30-30. When I looked at this 93 I just could not leave it behind.

For a 130 plus old rifle it has very little metal wear and the screws look like they never had a screwdriver touch them. None. Even the top of the bolt and top of the hammer are barely marked. It still has faint case color and the wood has very good. The bore is like new, but bore scoping it I see smears from jacketed bullets being shot.

Looking at this rifle it looks like it spent most of it's life hanging on the wall or stuck in the closet and pulled out a few times for a hunt.

Hey Kurt, That .30/30 is sure good looking. It probably isn't 130 years old, at least not quite. I've got Brophy's book on Marlin Firearms so if you want, I can look up the year of production for you.
Several years ago I came across a '93 saddle ring carbine in .32/40 that was just too good to leave behind. That gun had been rebarreled with a like-new Marlin barrel, so it is a great shooter. I still have it and somehow I can still use it with the open sights. It is a very good cast bullet gun. Anyway, good doin's on that .30/30. Shoot sharp, Mike

Kurt,

You are all set to compete in the 2017 Quigley!

Levers are the next item to have,

Maybe,
That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!

I don't know much as for dates they where made. I looked up my 39 3 digit sn# once and they seem to repeat the numbers every couple years. I don't think the 93 was manufactured past 1905 or 6 when I looked up the 89's and 93's a while back.
This rifle has a low 4 digit sn#

Jim.

I picked up these two lever rifles to shoot the lever matches at Baker and Alliance.
The 95 CB was the first because I did not see a nice 93 at the Q. But I developed a Eye problem and the Eye Doc I went to advised me not to shoot till it heals so I packed up and left some entry fee behind for the paint I smeared up at Baker before the second shoot and pulled out for home to see my Ophthalmologist here at home incase something needs fixing. Will see him in the morning. Sure is tempting to put some shells in the tube and see it it will hit a can in the yard LOL.
I know the .45-70 will hit the 400 yard diamond and the 600 yard stop sign with out a problem. I'm kinda like a kid on Christmas morning wanting to play with the new toys, but Mom wont let me. LOL.

Looks like you're good to go to start the Levergun Silhouette matches.

RE: A couple new friends
Kurt, will you be back at Big Hill later this summer? I wish I could find more lever shoots. I've had two 93 Marlins in 30-30, first one couldn't keep 5 shots on a pie plate at 100 yards. Second one was a real tack driver and it had some kind of special front sight on it that I haven't seen since. Sold it to get a PP barrel on my Shiloh 45-110. Wish I still had both, but...

Mike.

This rifle has an unusual front blade on it, unlike what I have ever seen too.
I don't know if I will make the Big Hill anymore again this year. When is the next shoot on the Hill? I sure didn't want to pull out a couple days ago. If possible, I would like to see how it turned out today.
I have a appointment first thing in the morning with the eye doc and I will head back out as soon as I can to make the Mt. 1000 or Medicine Rocks if it works out. I still have a lot of shells I didn't get emptied out. Smile

I stopped at the Cabela's for over night heading home and it was to early for the horizontal snore shelf so I went in and saw it behind glass. It said take me home please. Smile

Actually if you're eye healed up , you could make a heck of a trip out of August and Sept.
Alliance , Wy st. 22bcpr match at Casper, then the Rocky Mtn regional at Byers, then either go on over to Utah or back to Kansas for the silhouette matches, then back to Ekalaka , and then on to Baker.
Catch a bit of the high country fishing and gold panning, listen to the elk bugle...
