RE: Old E
Kurt was going to shoot 1k today, but we've got a front moved in with some stiff winds and gusting higher, would just be an exercise in making the gun go bang.
Sundays forecast looks good.

Were you using the 1.5 or the 2 in that 44?

RE: Old E
I use them Gary if I have them. Just before all were sold out I picked up 12K if Wideners has a good buy on them. I mostly use WLR or Fed F150M. The .44 bn likes the soft primer so I use a .012 in the primer cup and a .012 under the powder. It makes the .44-90bn behave very good.

RE: Old E
Cogitating on this stuff, I'm wondering if it might not like compression? Maybe a chronograph test with zero to minimal compression might prove interesting..

RE: Old E
I, for one, would find a "compression test" very interesting.

RE: Old E
I typed that while you was still in bed Lumpy....
Anywho wasn't able to test at 1k, cows had moved into the longrange draw so we had to go to 650 to get them behind the firing line...
This stuff (1.5) went nuts wiping between shots like I normally do with my KIK loads. So the loads with the .434 bullet will need revisiting.
Howsomeever with the short tankbuster and the dry lubed felt wad and a NAPA rubberized cork wad, nothing more than a blowtube between shots , it laid 3 on top of each other and 4 more very close to those. The other 3 round went to get the wind and mirage figured..
2f with some fireforming loads was an exercise in practicing trigger control under live fire conditions , and that's about all we'll say about that...
I do believe that this is a grand powder for paper patch shooting and minimal fouling control...

Going to run the tankbusters again. If that load proves out, it might very well make a Quigley load that couldCool keep pace with the smokeless shooters, Big Grinonly be using black and paper patched.
May sometime later revisit the .434 accurate bullet, and might even visit with the tankbuster at 1.35 length...
