New guy from MA
I found a link to this site on Cast Boolits in a post by Don McDowell. . My passion is 19th century black powder cartridge guns (rifles & handguns). My latest project is forming brass for a 11.75 X 36mm 1870 Austrian Gasser revolver. This forum really looks like it is up my alley.

Well Kurt-----how are those three new rifleguns shooting ?

I'm working on a 38-55 Hi-wall right now------first significant range test should be this week Smile

Originally a John King Shutzen piece, just finished restocking, mounting a Unertyl Small game---initial fire forming shows promise

Hi Goose------------pictures would be appreciated Smile----yeh i know i'll get some soon

Dave the three new shooters are shooting well. I spent a little time with the two lever rifles. The .30-30 93 Marlin is shooting very good with black powder loads. I shot 20 rounds with smokeless in the 30-30 but loaded with 4895 the only smokeless I have. But it cycles the black well and very good accuracy using it so it will get a diet of it.
The 95 Marlin .45-70 shoots a 63 gr load of 2F using a Pope design bullet good so I will feed it that load.
The .45-90 CPA held me close to the top at the Q and the Mt. 1000. I had a couple plow dirt that I asked my self What the HEY is it doing over there Huh
So at the first snow fall I checked this out and I found the 1/16 T/L alloy with the bullet patched a halve thousand over bore did not fill the grooves using a 83 gr load.
This makes me wonder just how good the purity Roto Metal really is. Walters lead/tin at 1/16 fills the bore very well.
I have several thousands cast and patched that I will have to pull the patch off and repatch them with a little thicker paper. No big thing.....just a little extra work.

How about on your end??

The Shiloh has me a bit puzzled (45-70) shoots one batch of brass EXTREMELY WELL-----same load EXACTLY except brass is only marginally better than throwing rocks, doing some load tests now to see what the new brass needs to perform, been a real puzzle.

The 38-55 Hi-wall has been a nice project-----------need to run some 300+ grain bullets thru it to get a heavy enough silhouette bullet----that testing will happen next weekend at the ranch

Stay warm

Weather has been deliteful Smile

Hi Rdnck---------------its star line

Really a strange deal, i bunged up my right shoulder a while back, and so loaded up some light loads in Remington brass-----60 Gr Swiss 1 1/2----------500 gr Creedmore----------slip fit grease groove
Shot AAA 3 matches in a row--------------switched brass to Starline-----same load-----5 minute load Sad

Everything is annealed

both batches of brass have the same mouth wall thickness-----------length the same 2.090
Remington has 3.4% more volume so i'm reducing the charge as the next test step in testing

RE: New guy from MA
Dave,

I think your problem might be compressing if your taking the same powder weight. Remington have a larger inside case volume capacity then Starline. The cases I have do anyway. This might be enough to change the compression causing your problem.
I would start a ladder load 3 shots each in increments of one gr each load from zero compression to .300" or even a little less if your using both swiss and OE. It will take less then 21 rounds fired to see what could use a little more refinement. Both powders shoot well with low compression......Kurt
