It's a beautiful day for casting

Yesterday was a perfect day at the casting shack, just like today. Hardly a soul for miles. The lake is perfectly calm, loons calling out, and I'm slowly winning the war on squirrels. One more down. A couple hundred left :-)

On Saturday I mixed up a batch of 16:1, yesterday was 400 Saeco #740's, today it'll be a bunch of 400gr Money bullets, and maybe a start on some .446" Money bullets for the.45's.

Life is good.

As you likely know you will never win the war & run out of squirrels. Shoot some and more move in. I hope you're eating those really tasty rodents. I like nothing better than fried squirrel. I have 8 in the freezer and about to stroke up the fire.

I grew up eating squirrels. My Mother's technique was to cut in quarters then boiled to tenderize them. Then roll in egg and flour and fry. I added another step of soaking them in milk overnight prior to boiling. Man are they good.

My wife's house dog Emma Lynn is a dachshund which I trained as a squirrel dog. She spends the better part of the day moving from front door to back door watching for squirrels and sounds the alarm when one is spotted. When I grab the rifle she about kills herself trying to get out the door. Then having no one to "circle the tree" we wait for the little sucker to show itself. Of course Emma get the best parts of the intestines for a reward.

BTW, Although I live outside the city limits and firearms are legal to shoot, our neighbors would not appreciate me firing even a .22, so I use a good high velocity pellet rifle and only take head shots. When it hits the ground Emma nails it just to make sure, then allows me to pick it up after a few bites.

Wayne I've never eaten one but my uncle tells me that they are quite good :-)

My place is on a lake in the middle of nowhere, but there is a no shooting zone around the lake for a mile. I've been trapping them, and have also been using some deterrent which I think is made from sand and wolf pee ;-). So far we've trapped a half dozen or so. Next time I'm bringing an air rifle too. These little beggars have chewed three holes into my place over the last couple of years.

I think there is an endless supply of them, something keeps making more :-)

It'd be a long drive for Don, but he'd be welcome any time. This year I've gone to preheating my molds on a hotplate. In the morning it's just above freezing so the hotplate helps quite a bit.

So far I've got 200 of the 400gr Money bullets in 16:1. Now it's time for lunch and then another couple hundred.

It should be a good time! I've got all of my bullets cast for the .40-65 now.

When I get there you'll know it's me. Just look for the nerdy dude with the old fashioned looking red and white trailer :-).
