Tissue Paper

RE: Tissue Paper
Hi Folks:

Further testing with "tissue paper" using bullets as hard as 12 Bn show fine accuracy, as least for me, 2 MOA out to 300 yards---when you can keep from damaging the patch !!!!-----------i had no problems with leading but occasionally when loading i would get a "hard push loading ,caused by a wadded up patch"-----this happened enough to make it bothersome and distracting ---- I hope to be able to find another paper this thin, 0.001 thick but a bit tougher to better survive loading.

I'll be going to a 0.0017 thick tracing paper and run the same spread of hardness 8,10 and 12 Bn
time to get serious about settling on a load for the next couple of months and PRACTICE THE SHOOTING PART Smile

Thanks again for everyones input

Dave

RE: Tissue Paper
Dave,

I picked up a couple of rolls of tracing paper at Staples awhile back that might be of interest to you. The rolls are roughly 2" in diameter and 18" long or so; the yellow paper mics at 0.0013" thick, and the white paper mics at 0.0016". It seems to be fairly durable paper, and I intend to test drive both of them soon, when the weather warms up; it's been a long winter here in the northern plains. FWIW.

RE: Tissue Paper
Hi IR thanks for the lead i'll hit staples next time i'm in town !!!! do you have the name of the 0.0013 stuff ?

Hey Don-----------yup i killed 10 pigs last year with the Creedmore PP-----if i can get the money bullet dialed in i hope to shoot it PP in the Texas State Match---we'll see Smile

Between trips to the ranch for feeder and blind work and turkey scouting then turkey season its gonna be a busy 6 weeks or so---------i'll shoot two more matches for dial in then make the call on PP

Be safe

RE: Tissue Paper
Hi Dave,

The paper rolls are 2" thick x 18" wide x 50 yds. long wrapped in clear plastic w/ a blue label for both thicknesses of paper. The company name is Staedtler; sounds like one of ol' Germans from over by Wishek, by Lehr, by Strausburg. The thicker paper is labeled 8 lb., and the thinner paper is labeled 7 lb; I didn't see that earlier.

I remember that someone mentioned this paper at some point in the past, and I don't remember who it was for sure; Don McD comes to mind, but not sure on that. It seems that as one gets older it gets easier for ones memory to "lose your rabbit." The worst part of the that is they also don't seem to circle back like they did, when one was younger.

IR

RE: Tissue Paper
That stuff sounds pretty close to the Seth Cole 8lb and 7lb paper. I wonder if the color codes are some sort of industry standard. I've mostly been using th 8lb Seth Cole which comes in similar rolls. I'm currently working on a couple of rolls that are 30" wide and 50 yds long :-). IIRC it's about 0.0016" thick, at least with my non-machinist measuring skills.

RE: Tissue Paper
Thanks IR----------i'll stop and get a roll next time i get to town !!!!!!!!!!!!!!----i've been using some Strathmore tracing that 0.0017-----it does well with 8 Bn lead but doesn't fully cut with 12 Bn lead---that apparently makes little or no difference to accuracy based on others experiences. I'm hoping to find a combination that completely confetti's with 12 Bn with my current wad stack.

Thanks for the comparison Gunlaker

The search continues

RE: Tissue Paper
dave,
wadding up can be both bothersome and distracting when shooting.
it can affect vertical a lot.
you just have to keep focused on the job.
keep safe,
