RE: 50-70 and the BPCR Rookie
Just a few minutes ago, as this is being written, I was loading more .50/70s and musing on how apparently a case trim die wasn't needed because I wasn't experiencing any case stretching. But then one of my newly loaded rounds wouldn't chamber in my rifle. Yup. Its case is a bit longer than the others... So, an RCBS file trim die for the .50/70 was immediately ordered from Buffalo Arms. They had it in stock..! Shoot sharp, Mike

That knife is called the River Bowie and it is made by Dean Oliver,
River Traders, email rivertraders@hotmail.com. He made that design at my suggestion and I really do like the knife. Shoot sharp, Mike

Mike, that RCBS trim dies is a fine tool. Once your brass length is set, to keep it proper length, a few light strokes with a fine file and you are back in business. I've had mine on the bench for over 30 years and works very well.

Yes, I have file trim dies for other calibers, including .50/90, but I didn't have one and didn't think I'd need one for the .50/70. So, it should be in the mail tomorrow. Then I'll be fully equipped!!

Sarge, I wrote a whole page about that knife in "Outstanding Products" in the 2013-6 edition of The American Sharps Shooters. If you'd like to, drop down to Publications and take a peek at it. Shoot sharp, Mike

Kurt, That .50/70 has a #1 Heavy barrel, half-round, 26" long and the gun weighs and even 10 pounds, until it is loaded... I'll probably have it along with me at Quigley next June so I'll bring some ammo so you can give it a good try, maybe at the bucket. Shoot sharp, Mike

I'll be looking forward to this Mike. I will pack the .44-77 and we will see it the ..50-70 kicks up less dust then the .44-77 will with barrel sights also Smile it will be fun.
