Their webpage shows some mighty fine examples, but all the "dealers" listed tell me they haven't had any to sell. Or am I just missing something?
Anyone?
I purchased one from Buffalo arms about a year ago. They have since dropped them from their offerings. The gun is stamped Pedersoli, Imported by Cimarron and sold by Buffalo arms.
I have had nothing but problems with it. I have a Sharps/Pedersoli which I have used for years and won many matches with. Narry a malfunction. This Highwall is the exact opposite.
When I got it it was an anemic blonde color. The cheek piece looked like a huge wart on the side of the stock and was so massive that I could not get my eyes lined up with the sights. The checkering was gummed up with finish and the wood to metal fit was not what I would expect form Pedersoli, or any other reputable manufacturer.
I had problems with misfires and when I contacted Buffalo Arms they said to send it to Pedersoli.
I reworked the stock myself. Cleaned the checkering and repointed. Reshaped the cheek piece into a teardrop shape and generally improved the overall appearance. The wood to metal fit is still a minor problem but it is not so bad that it will affect the accuracy.
The misfires are a bigger issue. I heard that some of the parts for the Pedersoli Highwall were made by Uberti so I tried ordering parts (firing pin, firing pin bushing, and spring) from Taylors but the parts are not directly interchangeable.
After reworking the bushing (it was standing proud of the breech face) and polishing firing pin hole in the breech block, my misfires are much improved. I may drop it off at Lee Shaver's and let him look at it but I need to work with it a little more myself before I come to that point, if this weather ever breaks and lets me get to the range.
Accuracy seems to be as good and the Sharps I had been using. My purpose for buying this piece originally was the stock configuration which I have not seen on any other example. Several have shotgun butt's but they do not have the same profile and this gun which I believe matches more closely the stocks of the early target rifles.
Can't say that I would recommend this to anyone else unless they have some stock finished and /or gunsmith tendencies.
