7* leed
It was -5 this morning for the longest time, it did warm up some, but...Dodgy
So I'm getting ready to do some test shooting with the roughrider 44 and it's new *7 leed and MVA scope. I looked in the line box , there was a batch of the Brooks old postel rounds loaded, so I said hmmm.
Put one in the bullet puller and pulled the bullet out to the 3rd lube groove, and gently chambered and extracted. It will now seat to the 2nd lube groove and not leave rifling marks at the driving band. Same round fit both the roughrider with it's modified and the #3 with it's purpose built chamber the same...
So now I'm wondering if I lubed up a batch of those bullets and seated out to the 2nd lube groove, what the target might showIdea
Thank I'll get a batch of those loaded to test along with the "hyde" patched rounds when the weather cooperates..

Good luck Don should prove interesting I had a fella call me Monday his new 7 deg shoots ok but he can not with pp get less then 2.5 to 3 moa vertical 1 moa horizontal though? Tight chamber too. I know the ODG used them well and too good effect. I suggested harder then his 1-40 alloy and thinner paper he was using a .441 bullet too that will bump up too that long lead then have too swage too that .450 bore. hell, I use 1-20 for my buffalo rounds an thick paper cookie too shoots ok not Creedmoor accurate but great for hunting.

Kenny I think you're right on that harder alloy, to much slump with the dead soft lead to get much of anything past minute of deer. That's alright for a hunting load as we all know, but don't do much for keeping them in the 10 ring.
The little bit of shooting I did do with the #3 and 20-1, 1.1 inch patched bullets showed that with target sights holding scores in the 80's and above would not be a problem if the shooter was up to it, but that was a short test at 100 yds with the barrel sights.
Looking forward to some decent weather to shoot in. Temp was 37 at 6 this morning, but somebody needs to tell Ma nature the wind speed doesn't need to meet or beat the temp.....Undecided

Yup. Yesterday started out at -5 finished up at dark around 17 above and was 10 above when I went to bed. Chinooked during the night and is just wailin out there now...
Maybe we'll just have to test new loads the hardway, during the heat of a match.Rolleyes Done that a couple of times, and it's not all painful.

RE: 7* leed
We're fairing a little warmer down here. Thankfully we are dealing with 80-90 F today ..which is a nice change from the 102 - 107F or so of the last ten days. Had a 115 F day a few weeks ago...and it wasnt much fun at all. No 7 degree leads here ..but watching with interest. All this talk of shooting bullets into snow drifts and waiting till the spring to check them out... all seems very mystical to us in 'Terra Australis'. Seems, from some of the coverage on the news that areas over there are 'copping a flogging' ( to use the vernacular ) with snow and plummeting temperatures. Watching with interest Don.
