Got the .44's shooting now what?
I'm sitting here looking out the window watching the 25 mph winds blowing the snow around in the bright sunlight with a Bald Eagle hovering about 200 ft above the ground looking at something on the ground. It amazes me how they can hold in a wind without moving holding in one spot with a 25 mph head wind for just about one minute.

I'm going to pull out as soon as Carol heals up to spend time in Cactus land and do some shooting and I thought that maybe I should use the .45-70 that I seldom use.
I know this rifle shoots well every time my Daughter shoots it but the loads were all loaded with the 2&3 f goex exp powder so I don't have time working up a load for it, besides it just aint any fun shooting in the cold with blowing snow in the lower teens.
I want to start shooting the silhouette matches because a few are starting to get started close to me and I think the .45-70 will be a good one for this because it was build for this game.

Where do I start for a load????

Kurt with a greaser, get ahold of the saeco 645. Patched I'ld dig into your adjustable moulds of .444 diameter, some 8# paper , felt wad and the Napa wad, and have a good time.
68-70 grs 2f with the greaser, 72 grs with the patched. Large pistol primer.

with that big old 45 Kurt you should start slow ,maybe 12 grains of 1F and a round balljust to get used to the recoil.

Don,

I have two drawers full of moulds I really don't want to get another one Smile well maybe two more Smile I been sending mail back and forth with Rick to have him build me two adjustable moulds of the Parker Hale bullet for the .45 and one for the .44-77. But he wants me to send him a sample so he duplicate it using his CNC scanner but I been checking on the laws and I cant send any over the line without getting my fingers slapped doing this.

Dean,

I see you noticed that I'm getting a little wimpy. Smile Hey I loaded some patched round balls in the .45-70 before with a 25 gr load that was almost too much for me to handle Smile
Seriously; I used to patch a round ball with a linen patch and seated them in a .45-70 and .45-120 case over 25 gr of Blk and let the Kids shoot them on a 50 yard target when they couldn't lift the rifle yetSmile and they did very good at 50 yards. You just cant shoot them with 60-70 grains in the fast twist barrels and expect accuracy, but 20-25 grains is a good load for the little ones.
