RE: Accuracy/Velocity Info
There's no "wrong" powder...just different.lol
Varget was always my favorite.

I shot quite a bit of Blackhorn209...it was pretty easy to get the Postell to 1300fps, but it felt like it was going to knock the fillings out of my teeth...It is hard for me to really enjoy the Sharps if it is pounding me too hard.

What kind of load were you shooting with the blackhorn, I shoot around 33 grains with a 520 money bullet and it is pleasent to shoot and accuracy is very good. That puts it about 1200fps, a little slow but iam not in any hurry.
Brian, The "wrong powder" is only a state of mind.Undecided Dave

RE: Accuracy/Velocity Info
I ran the Blackhorn from 32-40gr in the 45-70 behind the 535 Postell. In 2 cans of it I could never get it to drop the ES below about 19fps..this was at 35gr, which yeilded 1190fps ave. Seemed 35-40ES was more the ave. The 40gr load gave me 1300fps with an ES of 40fps (for 10 shots) But this load wasn't much fun to shoot.
I never crimped it and this may be the answer for better accuracy and ES.

I shot a "Hunting" match with it and 35gr and it was real nice. In 64 shots the fouling never took me out of the game...Didn't do any sort of fouling control.

RE: Accuracy/Velocity Info
With blackhorn you need to crimp and a little compression helps, i never do any fouling control, you can shoot it all day long.

Dave,
Don't suppose there's any reason to put the skiis on and come shoot with you today.

Freedom.
It wouldn't have mattered if Brian gave you his "wrong powder" load. He is shooting a completely different bullet.

If it were me, I'd go back to the 300 yd target and go up in powder at one gr increments till that load at that distance fell apart then try the highest accurate load at 680. Then start tweaking that load if it shows good results at 680.

RE: Accuracy/Velocity Info
I like to get a load running at 300, then 6,then 8 and finally 1k, unless it's something like a Quigley load where the shooting stops at 800 anyway.
