RE: C Sharps 1874
Dangit! what is it with work swarming a man like it just did me the last few days? especially spending the four days prior sitting in a chair slowly dying from stomach flu!Big Grin we're busy getting ready for hunting season.

That is as fine a Sharps rifle as I've ever seen Mike, Congrats, and yes, I'd bring that one to camp every time, whether weather permitted hunting it or not.

I always like seeing that one! I think a .50-70 would be a perfect choice for the next rifle. I still have some ammo loaded up from when I had a Roller in that round. I am thinking a Business Rifle with a 28” round barrel and semi-fancy wood and a pewter forend tip would make a dandy hunting gun.

Sounds good pacecars, and I may have the perfect mould for 50-70 Sharps hunting, it's a Steve Brooks .512 dia, 1.100" long, with about a .300" meplat, base pour flat nosed grease groove bullet, if you get rigged up and want to try it give me a holler.

Who says a .50 can’t shoot?

RE: C Sharps 1874
LOL, Thank You again for posting the pic pacecars, I am more than a little embarrassed to admit during the first two shots [high left, low left] I had forgot I was firing a 50-90 Sharps, don't know if others have found out, or maybe the 36 twist rifles with 473 gr bullets don't torque as bad.

After those shots I remembered what I needed to be doing, that is gripping that rifle akin to the way I do using a two handed grip during combat handgun, squeeze hard enough to get to tremor, back off to steady and keep it there, when I gripped this rifle firmly, I was rewarded with the last three in a ragged hole, I don't know about others, but I simply cant shoot ANY barrel sighted rifle any more accurate.

I have since peened down the dovetail cut with a small brass hammer for the sight chair, it's good and snug now and centered on the barrel flat, the next rounds will be fired with the ladder up to see where it lands out at 200 yards.

Yes Sir, and with shooting five rounds dirty at 100 yards, ANY hunting situation will be more than taken care of, 730 to 750 grain bullets spun up tight from 22 twist barrels at 1389 fps will definitely leave a mark, i'll take this "Big Mama" out a few times this fall to see.Smile

I will NOT have any bullets to recover for examination after the animal is hit, I try to set all my Sharps rifles up that way, pick your path to the vitals regardless of angle presented, it's a good feeling knowing when you load a round into the chamber, that's the last time you will ever see that bullet ; ]

RE: C Sharps 1874
My daughter wanted to shoot "a real rifle" so I let her shoot my bull barreled 50-90 Shiloh Sharps. This is with the barrel sights only. The top hole is the cold bore shot, the bottom three are touching at 100 yards - I said "a real group is 5 shots" but she decided to quit while she was ahead. These "big fifties" shoot real well. This one shot a buffalo too.
