Hepburn project
I ordered a barrel from McGowen, to have the 40-70 CSA Hepburn converted to a 22 bpcr rifle.
The plan is to send the barrel and rifle back to CSA and have Pat do the work on it.
Got notification today that McGowen shipped the barrel to me today.Big Grin

Sounds like a great project.

I really like the way the McGowen barrel on Carol's lowall shoots. I ordered this one with a 14 in twist. It's a round blank, Pat will contour it and install it, replace the breechblock with a rimfire block and extractor. The neat thing is , this will be the first 22 Hepburn they've turned out.
And maybe, with a bit of luck it'll be done in time to run it at the regional match in June.

Woohoo, got the barrel from McGowen. Wanna see something silly looking, its an 1.25 round blank with that iddy biddy 22 hole down the middle of it.
Hopefully the weather is being nice tomorrow and I can get this mess packaged up and on the way to Pat.

Did you have any ETA on return of the completed rifle?

Big Grin I have one of those silly looking 1 1/4" fence wire stretcher jack handles Tongue they can all laugh at that small hole they want. That stiff barrel just plain shoots Tongue

RE: Hepburn project
Don have you decided yet what profile and length of this barrel?
That Hepburn in the want section sure is a looker.

RE: Hepburn project
This blank is 28 inches, and will probably leave it at that.
Profile will be the same half round as the rifle wears now,,, unless I change direction and just have them build another rifle with this barrel on it, then may go with heavy taper octagon.
