yup, that's the plan....I'll fire it, set it, then put in a small detente screw that will be level and unseen....

wonder how many old timers actually did that?

RE: Pictures of my Shiloh bb with sporter tang
I ordered mine without the screw. It has a 7/16 allen screw hole where it is hardly noticeable to adjust and set the eyepiece. You have to get real close to even see it. I know I have to carry an allen wrench if I want to change the adjustment, but I plan to set the sight up for 200 yds and leave it for awhile. This rifle is not for competition so I don't really care about "easy" adjusting. I have to carry allen wrenches if I want to adjust the red dot on my S&W 500 revolver too. I got this sight because it is the closest thing I could get to an original sight for a rifle that I wanted to look like an original buffalo rifle. And it does look pretty cool.

yer right Fogman.....I'm going looking for a small (and I mean SMALL) screw to fill the hole....but I'd like a regular head.....I may try to make one, but it sure is SMALL. I took it out, and just left it, and you can't see the hole anyway, because it's SMALL! Rolleyes

Hi Stephen, my Shiloh 50 90. 20 yrs old, has a #1 heavy barrel, 30 inch, with the older 36 inch twist. I use a 600 grain postel type bullet, and it prints 2 inches or less at 100. 85, 1/12 swill, 030 card, and two newspaper wads...slight compression. you need the longer bullet to stabilize in that twist, but it sure works.....Ken

Ok, that was tough. 7 minutes....one dremmel and done.
I'm going to ask Thunder Mountain to make me a good one...
I really had to light it up to even see it!

Damn nice work and no charge for the advice. Sure makes a guy feel good to come up with a practical solution that works. How easy does the windage bar drift for adjustment.? bobw

funny you should ask. the windage bar moves, but it's tight. and...there appears to be a small set screw in the front....so small I never even noticed it...I think I'll just leave it alone. IF I EVER GET MY DARN 74 BACK FROM THE GUNSMITH AND CAN SIGHT IT IN.........
oh well....Ken

I just called Shiloh - they said the twist in a 50 cal is 1/22 unless you specify otherwise. So that's what mine has. It seems to shoot 600gr real well.

I know the new ones are 1/22, but my Shiloh 50 90 is an older one. I measured it at 1/36 years ago,
but..Accurate! wow. that big bullet really prints in tiny holes at 100.
I find a really tight shoulder hold works well....on all my BP guns..
Burnside Spencer, Sharps 68 carbine, 74 Sharps sporting rifle, etc.
deadens the hammer blow....Ken
