RE: 50-70 Progress
Mike it was made KAL mold, it's an adjustable mold based off of the original Sharps bullet. I first got the mold for my 50 2 1/2" Sharps. I ended up building another mold for the 50 2 1/2" Sharps so I shortened the bullet mold up for the 50-70.

Stephen, Bravo!! I've already got that mold. Right now I've got it set for 473 grain bullets and don't really want to change it. Besides, I'd want a 425 grain bullet with a slightly different shaped nose, so I could tell them apart. Maybe I should ask Tom at Accurate to make one for me. Shoot sharp, Mike

If you do, post a picture of what it looks like Mike.

Stephen, I'll do it but please don't hold your breath. Right now I have a new grease groove .50/70 bullet to shoot for shake-down. It's a new version of Accurate's 52-450L2. I asked Tom to make certain changes in 52-450L and to change the nose contour. I really like the looks of this new bullet, pretty standard actually, but so far only 10 of the new slugs have left the muzzle. More shooting needs to be done. But go to Accurate Molds and take a look at it. About in the middle of page 15. Shoot sharp, Mike

So its the 52-450L2 you have??? If I ever get a notion to try a greaser that looks like a good one.

Hey Cap, I was hoping you were still reading along. After all, you started this thread. Yes, 52-450L2 is the bullet Tom modified for me and he did it twice. The first time, and only two molds were made as far as I know, it had a nose like 52-450L and for me that was not accurate. I'm guessing that the "smaller" nose did not enter the leade of the rifling consistently straight. On top of that, my partner and I just didn't appreciate the looks of the first style, so we asked Tom for changes. Those changes were excellent and the first small batch of bullets loaded were seated just a shade too far out and they contacted the rifling just barely enough to make chambering a bit tight. The next batch is loaded now and shooting will take place during the week. I expect this bullet (over 65 grains of OE 2F) to perform very well. I'll try to come back with a shooting report. Shoot sharp, Mike
