Paper patch rifle
been putting together some stuff for a dedicated paper patch rifle. Got a flat spring Hiwall and a new, old stock .40 caliber badger barrel. I would like to make it a 40-70 SS. When I run my Hornaday 405 brass thru a RCBS full length sizer it sizes down to .400, exactly what my bullet will be patched. However the rim is larger and the brass is .006 larger above the rim than new captech 40-70 brass. I figured on buying a reamer , but my question is am I going to get a wad in the case under the bullet? All help would be appreciated. Bill

RE: Paper patch rifle
You can get a lot of wad in the case under the bullet, just need to compress the powder a bit.

The case neck only opens up to.400-.401 but I tried a .023 minute maid wad, a.060 Walters wad and a .060 LDPE wad and all went in . This might work. No powder in this case, just the bullet sitting in there
