Longmire
Anyone caught that new show Longmire yet? I'm just getting caught up on my DVR's backlog, and I gotta say it isn't too bad.

Pilot episode even featured a Sharps...

Yep, it's not bad. It's based off a series of books by Craig Johnson from up at Arvada/Clearmont. They got the second season already in the works.
Check out K2 Radio and Casper tribune for interviews with Johnson.

Jim it's a series running on A&E on Sunday nights. About a county sheriff in Wyoming and all the trials and tribulations he goes thru.

Yeh but beins the production started in January, and the setting was supposed to be in the spring. Also New Mexico was already set up for filming, and gave the production co a pretty healthy incintive.
Besides there's enough of the scenary in that show you couldn't tell it's not filmed in Wy.

Don't know the ins-an-outs, but it's a shame to have a show about Wy. filmed in NM.
Been a movie or 2 doing the same.

RE: Longmire
Yeh all those old westerns, Cheyenne, Laramie, The Virginian all filmed in Hollyweird sound stages and such.
The Mtn Men was filmed on location at Jackson, as was Shane. Stallone made part of one of the Rocky movies in Jackson , only it was supposed to be depicting Russia... One of the scifi thrillers was filmed at Hell's Half acre west of Casper, then Clint Eastwood did the Any which way you can movie in Jackson, Disney did a couple of westerns in Jackson, but for the most part anything about Wyoming has been filmed somewhere else.
Like that abysmal thing they had on awhile back Hell on Wheels, that was all filmed in Alberta, there ain't no place on or along the UP main line that looks anything like the backdrop in that farse.

RE: Longmire
Seems to me they have done a poor job of casting, at least in comparison to the characters in the books. Lou Diamond Philips doesn't come close to being 6'5" and 250 pounds that Henry is supposed to be. In the series Vic is tall and blond and pale complexion, in the books she is dark skinned, dark eyed and smallish with a very sharp tongue. The former sheriff has one leg in the book, not so in the series and the relationship between him and Walt is not adversarial. I guess I am having trouble accepting the series characters and that is clouding my judgment of the series it's self.
