Checkering as an afterthought ?
Just curious is all..but wondering all the same. I have one rifle with checkering to pistol grip and forend. The other rifles have no checkering. I find that its easier to maintain a constant hold, pressure and follow through with the checkering present. My question is just if its a problem to checker a stock after its been finished ? I understand it is normally done after the stock is fitted but before the oil finishes are applied but wondered if it could be done a year or two down the track without compromising the finish of the rifle. I'd be sending it to a professional 'checker of stocks' as its well above my pay grade.

RE: Checkering as an afterthought ?
gavin,
I think they normally checker after finishing the stock, then rub stuff into the checkering with a toothbrush.
keep safe,
bruce.

RE: Checkering as an afterthought ?
Thanks for the feedback. I knew it was done after completion of the stock but was just wondering if it could be done..and well , a year or two down the line after the rifle had seen some use. I gather it can ..and the key is to get a good 'checkerer' ( ? ).
thanks...
Gavin.
