RE: C. Sharps Big Fifty?
Eric I'm up early heading to a shoot so I boxed the mould up and it's heading your way. I show in my notes to wrap it just a little past the ogive and just touch the lands for best accuracy. Good Luck ,Bill

Thank's much Bill! I'm off to a shoot too! Shotgun in my case. I'll run some bullets and see how they work..... What alloy are you using? I can mix up most anything with lead and tin on hand.

Well, Mike I'll give a full report but can not include pictures as every time I think about a smart phone or camera, I buy another gun or primers or powder or bullets! I'm pretty hopeless that way. Next time out look's like Wednesday and I'll take my 50 70 military with the Accurate 51-465S bullets and Lucrezia again. With the 1X26 twist I'll be really happy to stay around 600 + or - grains for bullet weight. Can't see the need for 650 + bullets if it will shoot well with the lighter ones.

Eric, Keep on buying guns and maybe I'll team-up with you to take some pictures. What you're doing sounds great to me. I also have a 14 pound .50/90 so I'm very interested in what you are doing. My last good try was with the .50-515 RCBS bullet, over 90 grains of Olde Eynsford 2F, but it just didn't invite me to load many more of them. Everything is worth a second try but I am waiting to see how you do with the Accurate 51-550S bullets. In addition, I find myself dreaming of a 13 pound .50/70, a '74 with a #1 1/2 barrel. There is probably no end to it... Shoot sharp, Mike

Mike, This rifle was dare I say....Pleasant to fire from the bench with the BACO 512-625 Creedmoor bullets Hiwall55 was kind enough to send me and the 105 grain load of GOEX 1 fg. I really think it's a combination of the #2 heavy barrel and the high comb shotgun butt that make it work. And It really did shoot well! I'll be testing more bullets of course and I'm going to try new lot of GOEX 1 fg, Swiss 1 fg and KIK 1fg. A 50 70 with a 30 inch standard octagon barrel and a 1X36 twist would really be a nice weight for a hunting gun. Only thing better is my Shiloh Military rifle with the 1X36 twist. Glad I ordered it before it was dropped as a standard production item. I believe it will be a long while before they are available again. Maybe a Business rifle set up like the one Audie Murphy carried in "the Unforgiven" military butt with patchbox and pewter forend. In 50 70 with a slow twist....now that could be some hunting rifle!! Now, I have procrastinated long enough and simply must get that brass cleaned!

Well guys I guess I'll tell you what my 50-90 is, it's one of the 126 Winchester Hiwalls made by Mirouko it looks like any Browning BPCR, but a rather large hole in the end of the barrel. HA-HA it's 1/26 twist and I shoot RCBS 515 (throws 540 grains) and a BACO creedmoor at about 620 grains . I mostly use O-E 1.5 at 95 to 105 grains .

I keep begging others to show pictures, so I'd better be posting more myself. Here's my .50/90 with the #2 barrel, a '74 with Hartford features. One reason I don't shoot it more often is just 'cause I'm so busy with my .44/77... Shoot sharp, Mike

Hiwall55, Kinda thought you were a Highwall fan with that moniker! With this rifle I think I made the right choice in the 1X26 twist. It seems like it will work with 550 to 625 grain bullets. I'll get a back order in with BACO for that bullet! Very interested in seeing how the paper patch Accurate bullet work's. Thank's again for all your help. 50 70 and 50 90 brass is all cleaned up and ready for another go around. With the way Lucrezia is set up, from the bench the recoil is coming straight back with little muzzle rise and that is a good thing! Hope that Accurate mold 51-550S and the Sagebrush PJ Creedmoor bullets arrive this week as I still have a few pounds of that GOEX 1 fg to experiment with. Kind'a surprised myself...this is the first season I've ever shot through a case of powder!
