Rifle barrels

If you are building or have built a new BPCrifle, which barrel maker have you chosen and why. Some of the past favorites are no longer around and new guys are out there offering different variations, so what say you?

I like Krieger. Get the twist and dia you want. They are slick and shoot good. Neg is wait time and price and you still have to get them finished and mounted.

I'm really happy with the Oregon Barrel Co. They'll build the barrel to the inside and out demensions you request.

ron smith of Canada is always woth thinking about.
he can do gain or regular twist.
stainless is good.
douglas is popular with local bpcr guys.
their 40 cals are bigger than 0.408 so will possibly need a custom mould.
my next one will be a Krieger henry style, just because I can.

Don; Does Oregon have a web site? Are they cut rifled and do they octagon? THANKS LB

They don't have a web site for the barrels persey, but they do octagon, round, and half, they will also do stainless altho he doesn't like to.
This is their price sheet from last year, the prices aren't much different , judging from the barrel I just had them make.

I think Ron Smith makes a superb barrel. I have a few of his barrels and they work very well.

I also like the Shiloh barrels too :-). I've never had a dud.

I'm not 100% sure on the Green Mountain barrels, but the #5 1:16 twist one that C. Sharps put on my .45-2.4" shoots very well.

Do you have one of the gain twist barrels from Ron Smith?

I need to take my Organ Barrel off my CPA and get it re bored or replaced. Been thinking about a gain twist from him.

I have a smith gaintwist.
I am very happy with it.
I just had to try gaintwist, and having done so see no great advantage over a straight twist.
it makes really good confetti.

I have three Ron Smith barrels right now Kurt. One is a .38-50 gain twisted and shoots breech seated PP bullets very well. Another has yet to be used, it's a gain twist .38-55 on a CPA rifle that I want to shoot 200 yard benchrest with. I haven't shot that rifle yet but might tomorrow.

The third is a .32-40 that I shoot greasers in. Not sure if it's a gain twist, but it is very smooth ( BP fouling cleans up extremely easily ), maybe because it's 25 years old :-). It's very accurate unless I'm having a day where my trigger pull is out to lunch :-)

I don't know if they are any better than a straight twist though. If they are, I'm not good enough to tell the difference.

The Green Mountain is impressing me though. I finally had a chance to shoot i past 200m last weekend. We got it on the 600m, 700m, and 800m gongs and it looks like it likely holds accuracy well at longer distances. I don't have any idea how badly things can go wrong past 880 yards, but I feel more confident about the thing now.
