Well Gunner if you feel that 77 needs a Thor hammer you can always use a 2-5/8 reamer
But that .44-77 will get the job done and don't worry about the high velocity. 1280 to 1325 is more than enough to get the job done.
I still have not recovered a single bullet even a angling shot that went through a lot of body mass and through the hind leg bone.
I looked at the scull the other day hanging on a pole that I put through the brain and if it wasn't for the raw hide holding the horn on the far side it would fall off. The shot behind the ear devastated the scull. That .44-77 will do what ever you want to do. Just forget the money type bullet with the 19 ROT. The original bullet profile that just about every manufacturer used in the mid to late 1800 rds will hit the mark past 1580 yards with out a problem.
My adjustable .44 mould is ready to be replaced. It has made contact with the concrete floor to often and it will be the same bullet profile.
