RE: Old E
Just in from inquiry sent this morning.
Dear Distributors,

I’m writing this to quell any rumor or concern regarding our new match grade sporting black powder, Olde Eynsford.

Olde Eynsford is authentic black powder. There are no special additives in Olde Eynsford and it is not a smokeless powder.

Hodgdon/Goex is committed to the success of Olde Eynsford. After having received positive reports from award winning competition shooters, the tweaking is done. We can now concentrate on future production, making certain that Olde E is available to all who demand excellence.

Thank you for your continued support and patronage.

Bravo! It's good to see that Olde E is really black powder. It's also good to hear that the tweaking is done. Now I'm more than ready to get some!

Gary I think they made a small batch and tested it in house. Then they sent a partial shipment of what Powder Inc had ordered, and waited till the feed back from this first release hit. Outside of the questioning of it being so fast and clean apparently nobody has had anything bad to say about it. I would suggest if you want some to get on the horn and get it now, as Jerry does not have much left, so it'll be a bit before the next batch arrives.

RE: Old E
I got the second replacement sensor for the CED today because I felt that the unit I repaired might not have been compadible with the new one, so now I have two new once Smile I did my last and final test with this Olde E powder and I have to honestly say that I cant find fault with it. Today I compared it to the Swiss 1.5 and the Olde E 1.5.
88.2 grains of Olde E takes up about the same volume of 98 gr of 1.5 Swiss. The average velocity of Swiss was 1390 fps with an ES of 26 fps pushing a 501 grain .432" PP bullet patched to .438".
The 88.2 grain 1.5 fg Olde 1393 fps with an ES of 23 fps.using the same bullet. Pretty close volume for volume I would say. But I can get a few more shots from a pound can of Olde over Swiss.
The first shot with the Olde printed high @ 1 o'clock so I shot 6 rounds at that target. I should have put that shot in the berm.
I wont say what those groups are for size because I have a hard time believing it my self. Tongue
The big group on the lower left target is what Don has been asking about.
I shot 12 rounds "dirty" using a 475 gr Sharps RN CB bullet patched .0025 under bore. I could get off six rounds with hard thumb pressure the other six I had to use the cartridge seater and when I did this the group started to open up. I could feel using the tool that I pushed the lube wad out of the case so most likely the patches didn't release causing a bunch of wild fliers. One thing I did do and that was change the wad stack because of the ES over 40 fps I had on the first chrono reading. I thought that I might had some gas getting by because of the hard alloy bullets I used. This might have been the case because the ES was cut in halve.

Don, NOTICE, the group went left and high shooting dirty Smile

The first eight shots on that bottom left target is just what I am seeing with my 45-90 right now. shots stringing up to the left. I have thrown everything out the door, going to mount a scope on it and start over with a new loading test and new batch of Swiss 1.5.

Gary, thank you, but I cant take credit for something the rifle can do. I just point it and it puts the lead where it wants to.

Brian.

Those first 8 shots with out fouling control is only 2 1/4" To me that is impressive to get that many shots shooting dirty and stay a MOA doing it.
