RE: Lodi scores
Kurt I've made that trip. Might do it again if time allows.

Actually think it's probably easier from here to just jump on 20 and head east to Dubuque.

Yes 20 is a good road, but you will have a lot of small towns to go through till you get over the river a short ways unless they extended the 4 tracks since I traveled 20.

RE: Lodi scores
It's hard to express just how I feel reading some of this! Thanks guys for your kind words.

The sport of long range BPTR has been a big part of my life and Lodi is where it started for me 24 years ago. I try to give back to the sport by encouraging others who are interested in these rifles to give Creedmoor a try. So when I was given an opportunity to help Jim and Kevin jump in I decided to go for it and I am very happy I did. Both of these guys put a lot of effort into this match and both were eager to learn all they could to get the most out of the time spent. It probably would have been easier to take on just one new long range shooter at a time, but sometimes you have to take things as they come and again I'm very glad I did. It was a every rewarding experience for me to see two guys take to the sport so well and they both did very well.

Jim did a good amount of high power shooting 20 years ago and had even shot high power matches at Lodi so he was familiar with some of what it takes to shoot these matches, but this ain't high power. He adjusted well. Kevin of course is very familiar with the rifles and shooting them in silhouette matches, but there was a lot to learn with regard to long ranges matches and how they work. Kevin's point about how our 3-man team did overall is interesting and shows that they both picked up quickly on the things that were new to each of them. We three met each other for the first time ever at the range Friday afternoon before the match and we came together very well as a team with each one working hard for the other two shooters and we never let up, pushing hard all the way to the last shot. Damn that was fun!

Kevin did a good job describing what it sounds like in the pit and it is an amazing place to be with all those bullets flying just over head. I'm glad he was able to take it all in as well as he did because it is really all quite fascinating to hear and see. It is two days of go, go, go from the first shot in the morning until the smoke clears in the afternoon and there is little time to talk about it while it's going on.

I would shoot with either or both Kevin and Jim again anytime or anyplace and I know both will build on the things they learned this past weekend and do even better the next time. I'm pretty sure they will both be back, I think I set the hook pretty deep!

RE: Lodi scores
I totally enjoyed the weekend at Lodi, shooting with Kevin and Jim. I have a background in High Power shooting and have shot at Lodi in the past, although it’s been over twenty years. I must say, I’ve never seen conditions like that in any long range match I ever shot in.
Kevin fell into it very quickly. His silhouette experience really came into play especially with spotting. Any good score that I shot, I owe to Kevin or Jim. Wind coaching was definitely the most difficult part of the match!
Jim has been an immense help to me in teaching me to paper patch and gently nudging me toward competition. His knowledge is truly remarkable!
Now, about that mold! ?

Jim,
It's great to see you are "bringing em up" the right way , and that they did so well !!

Unfortunately if Tony wasn't also shooting PP , all your efforts may be for naught.

DD will come up with some reason to blame PP for the lack of a first place showing and will do all he can to seperate them from the fold. You will have to be very vigilante from now on!!!

RE: Lodi scores
Jim, also a big hats off to you for bringing in two new guys to the fold, your enthusiasm for paper patch is catching. You are a great ambassador for the BPTR paper patching group.

I look forward to the day I finally get to met you in person.

RE: Lodi scores
As it turns out Tony was also shooting paper patch. In fact at least 9 of the 21 shooters were shooting paper patch and there may have been a few more that I am missing as I think it through. So 1st and 2nd place fell to paper patchers! This is often the case at Lodi where we welcome paper patchers with open arms.

While I do work at bringing others into the fold there are those that I believe should for obvious reasons avoid paper patch bullets completely. I spent a good deal of time telling Steve Farringer that he should keep far away from paper patching. There are others out there too and they know who they are!

Thats awesome!!

And thank goodness Steve was there !! He seems to be the yardstick to measure these matches by presently.

I seem to recall some years back when a PPer won, there were all these yea buts from the south country!!

Welcome to the fold, and a tip of the hat for a job well done. Hope to see your name on score sheets for years to come.

Big Grin  RE: Lodi scores
Now, Jim, you have to realize just how much the price of that mold has gone up now that it has proven itself in battle!

When you can lay down in a wind like we had at 800 on Sunday, blowing in your face and gusting so hard it makes you grab for the hat on your head and then pour those last several shots into the 10 ring like you did I just think that bullet is a proven shooter.

Now, if you had dumped a few in the dirt the price would have gone down some, but...... Wink now we have talk about it! Just saying! Big Grin $$$$$
