Is 28" bbl too short?
Is a 28" bpcr in 45-70 too short for target use, out to 800-1000 yds.?
Inquiring (OLD) minds, HA HA!
Jim
That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!

What Don said. The sight radius on a 28 inch barrel does make the elevation adjustments a lot more sensitive, though. In my experience, 30 inches is best all around. Shoot straight, rdnck.

It sure makes a great hunting length though! I have not tried it but if you scope it I don’t think it would matter as much. I could be wrong though and I will always defer to the much more experienced shooters on here like rdnck, Don and Kenny

Jim, be good to your old eyes and put a scope on your 28" barreled rifle. Then the sight radius is not an issue.
Keep on hav'n fun!

RE: Is 28" bbl too short?
Jim I have a 73 22" trapdoor carbine and a 32" 73 rifle. Both will hit the 800 yard Buff at the Q.
The only thing I see different is the big orange ball of fire with the 22" barrel.
The reason a dog has so many friends is because he wags his tail instead of his tongue.
