In 1976 my father took me on my
FIRST hunt, 12 yrs old, with this rifle, dropped a nice 4x4 mule deer, 1st shot is all that was needed. I remember my dad telling me it was the cleanest shot he'd seen.
1983 my grandfather died, I was asked if there was anything of my grandfathers that I wanted? Without hesitation I said his (this) 30-06.
I hunted with this rifle for the next couple of years, until I bought a Remington model 700 BDL in 300 win mag.
I cleaned and oiled this rifle, and put it to bed.
1992, my now wife, took this rifle on her
FIRST ever hunt of anything and shot a 4x4 mule deer, 1st shot was all that was needed.
Cleaned and oiled this rifle, put it to bed.
2009, took my oldest daughter Savannah on her
FIRST hunt ever, she shot a nice 4x4 mule deer, 1st shot was behind the frt shoulder, laid down, told her to put another one in the same spot, she did, the end. Cleaned and oiled this rifle and put it to bed.
ALL of this has been done with this rifle posted above.
It will not see the light of day again until my youngest, 9 yrs old will go on her first hunt. After such time it will be cleaned and oiled and put to bed, again. I'll probably hang it on the wall.
I just want to know what the hell is it? Nobody can tell me much about it, the markings on the gun is whats in the pics, thats it. No other. The most that has been "guessed" is that it is possibly a military weapon that has been sporterized.
It has a VERY tight chamber that brass fired from this rifle or fl resized brass only can be used.
Because of the history of this rifle, to me, it is priceless.
