You do put it on the exposed patch after the bullet is seated

Perfect! Thanks, have a powder compression die and some wads on the way, by this time next week all I'll need is a rifle ;]

Okay.Smile

Shiloh #3 Sporter
44-77 SBN
30" #1 heavy 19 twist octagon barrel
Bone pack colors
Checkered steel shotgun butt
Schnabel fore end

Question is, does this rifle need a Hartford Collar to be more historically correct?

Thanks again Men.

I believe so, on the collar.
I would call Shiloh and ask either Lucinda or Kirk to be sure.

The Hartford collar was dropped when the put in new miling equipment when they moved to Bridgeport. Either one is correct for the buffalo era.

You will be surprised at the penetration of that .44. Find a 12" to 16" brown needle pine or stump and put it through the middle Smile

Many Thanks Lumpy and Don, guess I'll just leave it tulip ;]

I'll be giving her every opportunity to do so Kurt, the 1.285" bullet will be cast near 16 to 1, hope it weighs at least 460 grains and penetrates straight.

10-4 pacecars, were I getting an older version of a buffalo rifle built, I'd go with the collar, having extra steel 'left' in the chamber area is a nice feeling too.
