Thank you Kurt,

This is very interesting. And you shoot both pp and gg with this new 5 degree lead, accurately. This is all new to me but it makes perfect sense having a slower transition into the rifling rather than the 45 degree factory lead. Thank you for showing this to me. Now, I need to call Kirk at Shiloh and talk things over with him.

Robert if you're shooting greasegroove the only thing you're really looking for with patching between shots is keeping the fouling hydrated, and somewhat uniform. The lube from the bullet is supposed to keep the lead from tinning to the barrel, so as long as the bullet doesn't hit any hard foul or rough spots all should be well.So it's possible patching 2 wets is doing more harm than good.
Also looking at your patches with that much grey on them you got some hunks of lead hung up in there somewhere, and lead in the barrel begets more leadiing. I'ld get down and dirty with some lead mining and get nothing but pure white patches , then go work on your wiping routine.

Robert.

The long gentle lead is not the answer to everything. I have Shiloh's with the regular chamber that shoot just fine and give no problems with GG or PP

Don.

You have something there about getting the barrel dry and clean. It's not the lead that causes the problem it's the tin. lead is a lubricant tin sticks to metal. That is why I use anti freeze it has a lubricant in it and not only that it keeps the patches from loosing their moisture from evaporation.

I get better accuracy using a blow tube till the heat builds up or the humidity gets to low. Blow tubing if you keep the fouling moist I think keeps the consistency and the ES.

But, Don, this is what it's doing at 200 and 100 yards. I believe I'm getting all of the lead/tin out.Huh

You were absolutely right Don,

I went back just now, ran (4) more soaked patches down the bore. Each got lighter and lighter until I finally had a nice white patch come out. There was just a little lead/tin left in the bore come to find out. I need to do this more often, more than just two patches to stay ahead of the leading now and then.

Thanks,Smile

1-200 yds don't tell you much, good for hunting loads etc, but even midrange quits at 200. When you get to 600 and beyond that's when the little things that don't show up at powderburn close ranges start jumping up and raising cane.
And when you think you got clean patches going thru from the chamber, take your rod to the other end and dont cry to much if it looks like you just brought a chunk of your rifling out on the patch...

No, I have never tried this load past 200, unfortunately. Don, you bring reality into the picture and I am one who appreciates it. I'll take the first opportunity to find a place and time to stretch the legs on this load and see what it does at 500-600 yards like you suggest.

Thank you again,
Robert

Robert keep us posted. Those greasers your shooting have a large and well deserved reputation.
