RE: 40-90 bn - Rowdy Rick - 06-18-2017 (06-17-2017, 06:49 PM)Don McDowell Wrote: There are a number of those 40-90's in various museums around this part of the country. The one I wonder about the most was in a north eastern Colorado museum that was inundated by the big floods on the South Platte. It was a gorgeous rifle with factory checkering etc,, would be a shame if that rifle's bore got filled with Denver silt. Don, family commitments and taking care of Dad have turned my no commitment summer into a busy one. Would love to shoot that rifle of yours though. Where and when is the Dean Scoggins match? Rick RE: 40-90 bn - Don McDowell - 06-18-2017 It's at Alliance the last weekend in July. All 1000 yd. RE: 40-90 bn - Kurt - 06-18-2017 Don is this a one day or two day shoot? RE: 40-90 bn - Don McDowell - 06-18-2017 Two days, 12 shots and 1 sighter on each of three targets on Saturday, 8 shots no sighters on Sunday. RE: 40-90 bn - Don McDowell - 06-18-2017 Here's the rifle ![]()
RE: 40-90 bn - Don McDowell - 06-18-2017 First up was the 400-360 ![]() Then came the 396-415 ![]() I wish I would of put up a fresh target for the second go. All in all not disappointed, and believe this rifle has some real potential. Not exceptionally happy with the brass, had 2 primers back out. Think I'll be calling BACO and getting an order for 100 of their brass on the way. RE: 40-90 bn - Kurt - 06-18-2017 Are you going? I will shoot Alma the second week in July and this would give me time to reload for the .45-90 and maybe by this time I will have the wood finished enough on the .40-65 to see what it will do at the 1K in the Neb. winds. Does Jim have the gate open by Wednesday? It's time I get back to Alliance, it's been a while. RE: 40-90 bn - Sarge - 06-18-2017 Don, I've thought many times that would be a fun cartridge to play with and after reading what Frank Freund wrote to Sharps, didn't hurt my fancy for one. Many thanks for the update. RE: 40-90 bn - Don McDowell - 06-18-2017 Kurt, yes we are planning on being there. I need to cast some bullets for my 45-90. Sarge, I think this is going to be another one of those sleeper cartridges. It gets a bad rap about recoil, while the recoil surely isn't a 40-65, I didn't find it any worse than a 45-90. |
