Got a small sample of round loaded and ready to test in the new to me Shiloh #1. 415 gr money bullet and 360 gr. creed moor from BACO blocks. set on top of 88 gr of Cartridge.
Will have some Olde E 1f next week to get serious testing done, but for now we'll see if she'll go bang.

That is a nice looking round Don, the .40-90 has been in my mind for some time. Is the twist a 16 in that rifle?
When you get the rifle set up and serious shooting in winds and breezes post the results for that round.

I suspect it's the typical Shiloh 16 twist.
These cases are RMC, and there are a bunch of Bertrams. Not enough of either to load for a match, and it looks as tho the capacity of these are different.
Think I'll either order a bunch of the Buffalo Arms formed cases, or get some Jamison 110, trim those down and fire form.

Nice looking rounds! First sharps I ever shot was a 40-90 BN of Wild Bill's. Shooting with a couple of guys who had 45-70's and those 40-90's sure got to the gong a lot quicker!. I always thought I might qet one also. Keep us informed.

Hit him in shoulder, through spine. Flat shooting with that 350 gr Hoch bullet PP. I used that same bullet in my 40-65 to take a one shot buff as well.

James H Cook, of Agate Fossil Bed fame, claimed that his 40-90 was a very affective buffalo gun, and having seen Wild Bill's buffalo video before, I would not question it's ability.
Kenny Wasserburger termed the 40-90 as the 7 mag of the 1870's,,, he may be on to something there.

Good info Don! I read about another buff hunter that used 40-90 BN also but don't remember his name. Having shot that one of Wild Bill's at 600 yards, I know it gets there quicker than most BPCR calibers. Old Kenny came up with a pretty good term for it. Makes me want to get one now

There are a number of those 40-90's in various museums around this part of the country. The one I wonder about the most was in a north eastern Colorado museum that was inundated by the big floods on the South Platte. It was a gorgeous rifle with factory checkering etc,, would be a shame if that rifle's bore got filled with Denver silt.
If things come together, I may have this rifle along for the Dean Scoggins memorial match,, would be happy to let you fondle and fire it.

Well, I had just assumed the Shiloh twist was 1-18. Thats what I get for soommming! Learned something.
