RE: Hunting season in Texas has begun - Kaywoodie - 10-13-2015 Well done David! I did the same thing two weeks ago as I had to go down to Kenedy county in Deep South Texas to do some ranch work at a hunting camp for a rancher. He told me to dispatch any and all hogs seen. So I was out for a morning stroll one morning a busted this boar with an old Husqvarna 9.3 x 57. 270 grain Speer hotcor load. ![]() If I'd had a dollar for every one of these things I'd shot over the past 30 years we could have a heck of a party!!! 2014 I trapped 17 here on the home place. But now daughter and SIL live on the back of the place with a whole herd of hounds, so they keep the pigs chased off. But the neighbors place has a bunch, and they can go ove there and fill the larder with a shoat or two!!!! RE: Hunting season in Texas has begun - Dave Roelle - 10-13-2015 Nice pig sir, got some cutters on that one !!! Great riflegun !!!!! The ranch i frequent belongs to a good friend, not far from Goliad----lots of really great texas history in the Goliad area So far this fall we've eliminated about 8 pigs, more to come ----------i cure hams off the sows, grind the rest for sausage-------really organic right ![]() Good hunting Dave RE: Hunting season in Texas has begun - Stephen Borud - 10-13-2015 Great work Dave! Stephen RE: Hunting season in Texas has begun - Dave Roelle - 10-13-2015 Thanks Stephen-----------in total 6 pigs met the ultimate fate------we fed the boars to the yote's and buzzards----when i get a minute i'll post the other pics One old boar was 63 inches end to end not including the tail Be safe Dave RE: Hunting season in Texas has begun - Dave Roelle - 10-13-2015 Here are the other two smelly boar hogs that won't tear up any more pastures Both were DRT 223 with i believe 60 gr noslers and 7mm magnum with hollow point boat tail sierra's ![]() ![]() Dave RE: Hunting season in Texas has begun - Rowdy Rick - 10-14-2015 Good job Dave! Rick RE: Hunting season in Texas has begun - Dave Roelle - 10-14-2015 Thanks Rick ------getting out in the wilderness with em is always fun Dave RE: Hunting season in Texas has begun - Nuclearcricket - 10-14-2015 You all are doing a great job on thinning out those pesky pigs. Please keep up the good work and good eating. I do however have a question. I know that most modern center fire ammunition runs at supersonic speeds so you get both the nasty blast from the muzzle as well as the crack as the bullet goes down range and that can scare things pretty badly and get those pork chops moving at high speed to be someplace else. My question is this, since most rounds loaded with BP are subsonic and not nearly as objectionable to hear when they are discharged, do they scare the piggy's as badly? Or do they bolt and run just as fast as when shot at with anything else? Thanks Sam RE: Hunting season in Texas has begun - Dave Roelle - 10-14-2015 Hi Sam-----------at the ranch the pigs haul butt whenever that sense a threat----if a 22 goes off near em they are GONE---------------typically ya can walk up to say 100 yards of pigs an they just can't see ya well enough to understand they need to leave, i actually shot a sow last falll under a feeder DRT---her running buddy bolted into a thicket and came right back and got the same treatment.
