Hunting season in Texas has begun
Hi folks, spent 4 days at the ranch planting food plots working on blinds and fences---worked cows some----the mornings and evenings were spent watching critters and eliminating a few hogs.

This old boar hog was spotted at about 400 yards, did a slow stalk to 100 yards and eliminated him with a 450 grain Paper Patched--flat nose--hollow pointed slug, 40/1 on top of 80 grains of 1 1/2--45/70--put his head in the center of the aperature and hit him just in front of the ear DRT not even a twitch----the bullet is buried in a mesquite thicket. What a fun way to kick off the hunting season.

We have a bunch of quail this year, looking forward to collecting a few with my old Smith

The deer are in great shape this year lots of pretty 10's showing up, rut will start in the next month-----this load should work well on them a when november gets here.

Hey Good doings!! He is still small enough for some good smoked cooked sausage.
There is something about the Sharps, they hit like Thor's hammer.

Hi Kurt----------i had an old hunting buddy helping make to sure the pig didn't get into a nearby thicket, he watched the bullet strike through his scope, his help wasn't required, the Sharps literally knocked the boar off his feet----yup "THOR'S HAMMER" for sure.

We feed these smelly old boars to the coyotes and buzzards---now a sow is another deal----the girls are tasty Smile and nowhere near as smelly
Neither will eat as well as your buffler Smile

I hear you about the stink. We raised Yorkshires that we put out in the cattle feedlot to clean up behind the cattle and once they start breading they are not fit to eat when they get over 125#

Hi Kurt--------------i'm originally from central illinois, my gramps raised "Hamps" so no stranger to pigs and what to do with em.

Hams are in the cure now, i pack the chops with a dash of meat tenderizer and a sprinkle of pepper before i freeze em----the chops come out pretty tender, the hams are great, its the only way to deal with wild pork in my book

Hi Klaus--------thanks, always enjoyed my trips to Germany----pork hocks and sauerkraut are "good eats" !!!!!!!!!!

Hi Bill-------------two of the other friends that went to the ranch this weekend are good hunters, smokeless center-fire shooters they still look at me cross-ways shooting lead wrapped in paper Smile---so far none of my pigs have taken a step-----a couple of theirs went for a run before they piled up.

Kurt that 44-90 we are working up belongs to the ranch owner, its coming together---he's planning to hunt with it this fall, oughta be fun Smile

Keep safe guy's

Sounds good Dave. That .44-90 bn is one hot number with a 485 gr RN bullet behind a 100 gr of 2F. It amazes me how much faster it kicks the dust up down range compared to a .45-90.

Doc says the same thing, i'm feeding it Swiss 1 1/2, 85 grains under a grease groove money bullet and a much lighter flat nose gg for critters---------its flat for sure, we'll kick up the charge when we get everything fire-formed-------------had to deal with an extractor issue---it was preventing full seating on an occasional round, its been relieved and working properly.

Dave,
OUTSTANDING! About 2 ft. straight down is the best way to track them after the shot.
