Kermit, Thanks for the very detailed description, and I really enjoyed your photo gallery. Only 1 question I can think of is how do you get a 0.595 ball and 0.018 patch down a .54 cal. barrel? Or is that a typo?

Additionally, I'll bet you could take that rifle to the National Rifle Club matches in Cody, WY, and scare the socks off some of those cutthroats in the 100 yd. picket rifle match w/ it.

Hi Guys

Its been quite some time since I've been here. I'm a slug gun shooter from OZ. I'm shooting a Rice false muzzle 40 cal barrel 1 :16 twist 1:30 lead tin bullet with a 2 thou chase patch. Would like to try a 2 part bullet but do not know anyone who makes them. Can anyonhe help?

I'd suggest going to the Wyoming Schuetzen Union website, but it's been down for a week or two. No known reason. You could try the Cast Boolits site under black powder and such and you might get lucky. I've had very little luck with finding online places to talk chunk guns and slug/roundball bench guns. You might also try the "Over the Back Fence" portion of the American Longrifles (ALR) site.

I've heard that there are likely fewer than 200 muzzleloading bench gun shooters in the US, aN most of them know one another. They just haven't found this site.

Thanks for that.
In Australia the majority of muzzle loading shooters are into rondevous style gatherings, and most of the sluggun shooters here possibly about 30 shoot grease groove bullets either with barrels fitted with false muzzles or without. Very few of us shoot paper patch bulets. In my local club only 23 of us are shooting patched bullets, me with a groove diameter combination bullet and chase patch, and the other chap with a bore diameter bullet and wrapped patch. Both of us are shooting Rice 40 cal barrels with gfalse muzzles and would like to try 2 part bullets.

Noticed in the Black Powder Cartridge News, that Nye Oil is used as a paper patch lubricant. Which particular Nye product is used.
