Yes that should work very good. My stem and socket is a little smaller but the same concept.
The reason a dog has so many friends is because he wags his tail instead of his tongue.

I have a question on nipples for the Slug guns, is it advisable to use Platinum nipple with these rifles. I ask this because I have shot LRML rifle for several years and know that regular nipples will not last for very many shots shooting loads of 100 grs of powder and 550 gr bullets. Even the platinum nipples won't last long if you use 3F. I have never read anything about Platinum in regards to Slug Guns.

It seems strange that according to the view counter Slug Guns and Muzzleloaders receive about as many views as all the other topics combined, yet there has not been a new post since Jan. Is everything that can be said about Slug Rifles been said? Being new to this game i had hoped of reading about various topics relating to shooting these rifle and what make them tick. Would love to see info on how to start working up the skill levels needed, now that i have a rifle, and the weather should be OK for shooting in a week or two I really don't exactly know how to fire it up and not do anything to hurt.
If I had knowledge on the subject I would send it, but at this point I only have questions.
Any help out there? I did receive some good information initially however the well gone dry sine Jan.

Mike, sorry to be away so long. Your slug rifle must be one of Ken's older rifles if it use a nipple and cap. As far as I know everything he made from the mid 90's on was set up for small pistol primers. If you are using a cap and nipple you will see rapid burnout with a standard nipple. A platinum lined nipple is your best bet if you can them. If you are set up to make your own nipples you can make several from stainless steel. Jim

Once you have an accurate powder- bullet combination tested at 200 yards the rest of the game is practice, consistent loading and cleaning techniques and reading conditions. Wind, light, and mirage. As this game is all about accuracy it is very important that you do everything the same way every time. Wen you clean between shots, use the same number of strokes with the wet patch and dry patch every time. Weigh your powder. One you know the load use small glass vials that can be loaded up at home. When working up a load take your scales with you to the range.
Consistency is the name of the game.

Jim, i was in error when I asked about the nipples on the slug gun. Yes my rifle is set up to use small primers, I should have been clear, I was wondering if platinum was used any where in the firing channel. Just my lack of experience.

I have a question re: round ball bench guns, I know this is a slug rifle thread, however I'm sure the guys with the knowledge on RB are here also. I want to start shooting the 50 lb Bresien bench rifle that I got along with the the Slug Rifle. The rifle is 1/72" 50 Cal. I did not receive any loading info with this rifle. From things that I have read it sounds like these RB guns take a heavy load, 200 + hrs of powder. I know I can start out and try until I find out what works, however I would like to at least start out somewhere within reason of a working load. Can someone suggest a starting point.
TIA,

Mike

Over on the Muzzleloading Forum there is a topic about rd. ball bench gun loads, etc. It kinda sounds like 100-120 gr. FFg is a fairly standard loading of .490 patched rd. balls in the .50 cal. guns.
