Goex FFFg Express

RE: Goex FFFg Express
Thanks Chris,

Use it in good health. Now why would he do that? If he doesn't have Swiss then Olde 'E' is the best he can do to compete. It amazes me how these guys keep shooting themselves in the foot while complaining that business is bad. I have heard that Prophet River in Lloyd' is working on becoming said Swiss Distributor. Clayton does most things right so it would be a good move for him and us.

you take now,

Paul

RE: Goex FFFg Express
I'll definitely make the trip to Alberta if Swiss becomes available there. It would give me a good reason to attend one of the shoots over there too :-). Which part of Canada are you in DeadEye? I'm in the lower mainland of B.C.

I think the issue we run into here is that the muzzle loading guys outnumber us about 50 to 1 and they seem to only buy standard grades of Goex. Once I run through this order I might see if I can get him to order a couple of cases of Olde E. if I pay in advance.

Mind you, I've never played with the standard grades, with the exception of Fg in a few rifles, most notably the .45-110's. I might get a Money bullet with a couple of reduced driving bands and see how it works in the Shiloh. I do know that I can just hit 1200fps in my CSA high wall in .45-70 with standard Fg and a Brooks Creedmoor bullet with reduced front driving bands, but the accuracy is not yet as consistent as the Shiloh using FFg Express.

Hi Paul,

I picked up the powder today and spoke to Jeff in person. He told me he'd be willing to bring in some Old E. for me but I'd have to buy it in advance as he doesn't want to carry an inventory of it. I can see his point as almost no one bought the Express stuff from him and he sold it to me at a loss. It's just too bad that there aren't more competitions out here in B.C. That would drive sales of the premium powder.

Are you out Alberta way? I'm thinking of heading there late this summer to catch a silhouette match. There seems to be a lot more going on there than here.

RE: Goex FFFg Express
Well I ran the first FFFg Express loads through my Shiloh today. Accuracy at 200m was not as good as I was getting with the FFg Express but I think my brass should probably have been annealed again.

Velocities were definitely higher. My 69gr FFg Express load runs at almost exactly 1150 fps with a BACO Money bullet. FFFg Express with the same weight powder charge averaged nearly 1250fps. Best accuracy seems around 67gr and 1210 fps. My 10 shot ES was 12fps and SD was 4.2 for that powder charge so that seemed pretty decent.

It was a cool humid day so I don't know how much fouling I'll get when the barrel is lying in the hot sun in low humidity, but it seemed pretty light.

I'm going to anneal the brass and try some smaller powder charge increments near 67gr and see what I can make happpen.

Chris, try a over-primer-wad.
I use coffee filter paper at the bottom of the case.
What primer are you using?

Chris,

Sorry I did not get back to you sooner. We have been on the road going from shoot to shoot to shoot. That is what we do. We just got back from the Alberta Provincials in Two Hills. Chris and Ann have put together a first class range. It can really beat me up sometimes but this time wasn't too bad. We brought home "AAA" Iron. It's a beautiful spot and ranks right up there with Big Hill and Missoula for natural beauty. There is one more shoot in September this year, the 20-22nd but we'll be back in Montana.

Gary,

I started using coffee filter paper some months ago and won't be using anything else from now on (I was wondering what we were going to do with those #2 filters we bought by mistake). Thanks for the tip.

I'm using CCI BR2's as they usually work well in all of my rifles. I'll give the coffee filter paper a try. I sometimes use over primer wads, but have been using plain white paper. These loads did not use them however.

Paul maybe I'll bump into you at one of the Alberta shoots one of these days....

RE: Goex FFFg Express
Br-2's are what I use too.
You might want to bump you powder charge up a bit.
I'm run'n 77 gns(weight)of Goex 3F, with a PJ C'moor in my .45-90.
Last time I ck'd the MV, it was run'n 1350fps.
