New C. Sharps 45-70

RE: New C. Sharps 45-70
I like those Distant Thunder sights. I have one on a .45-90 and am very happy with it.

Eric, you might want to know that Shiloh makes a custom sight card that works with the MVA sights. The apertures in it have a thicker annulus. I found this out just after I'd ordered some custom inserts from Jim at Distant Thunder to solve the MVA thin ring problem.

Chris.

I need a new sight for my new .40-65. How much windage does the DT sight have?

Also, is left up or down for windage?

Kurt we are talking about the Distant Thunder midrange front sight, not the tang site. At least I was :-) :-)

TNX. Chris. I thought when Erick said he was ordering a midrange he was talking about a tang sight. I didn't know that there was a midrange front.

I need a new tang sight but it has to be a clock wise right so I don't have to stop and think which way to turn for right. I lost several rams going the wrong way using the DZ scope. It's the opposite of the MVA Smile

Kurt, yes, I ordered the front sight Mid-range for out to 800 yards. The sight is angled for a better view through the globe at distance and work's very well on my Long-range 45-90 out to 1000 yards. I do not think Jim has made his rear for about a year. He must be spending more time shooting than running machines. I completely understand that as I'd rather be shooting more too! Chris, I have a set of the Shiloh's but while the annulus is thicker, the aperture's are too small; for my ageing eye's. I had Jim make me several with larger aperture's and ordered several more with the new sight. How do you that have them like the MVA Soule sights? Thinking about one for easier windage reading.

Eric I really like my MVA soule sights. I've had a few other brands and I like the MVA ones most. For long range I would opt for their Buffalo Soule just in case it gets windy :-)

My take on sights , and it's been an expensive series of trials, MVA buffalo soul on the rear and Baldwin fronts.

I would say you can't go wrong there! I use MVA rears and Baldwin fronts myself. I also have a reverse Baldwin and like it very much as well.

On the range yesterday and have the new front sight installed, (using a MVA Mid-range rear) established a no wind zero and shot up some left over ammo. BACO 535 gr Creedmoor, 75 grains of OE 1.5 Money Bullet 73 grains of OE 1.5 and the Lyman 529 gr RN Gov't. 70 grains of KIK 2 fg. 1'st shot swag on the sight setting awarded the X at 1. Pulled the 2'nd out left and following into the 10 ring. Money Bullet sighter went into the white at 10 and then corrected for the low 10's and nine ring. (pulled one into the black high). 10 rounds with the Lyman bullet shot pretty well. Low 5 ring is the 1'st shot. I thought it would print higher than the Money Bullets and lowered my setting.....wrong it would have been fine with the original setting. I did have a few shots with poor sight alignment but I believe this rifle will shoot just fine. This is the 300 yard reduced for 200. Have to adjust the rear base fit with the rifle as sight is just a bit off and I see a bit of shadow in the bottom of the aperature.

RE: New C. Sharps 45-70
May I ask, what is it about the Baldwin that is 'better' that the MVA front sight?
I use a MVA #113 on both of our Shiloh's.
A GOOGLE search on Baldwin shows he is kinda hard to contact and his site is not much help.
