Federal Gold Medal Match primers/Magnum

RE: Federal Gold Medal Match primers/Magnum
I had good luck with the Fed. LRMM in a 50 x 2.5" but have settled on CCI BR2 for the 40 & 44. Funny when I started this black powder cartridge journey ( that doesn't seem to end by the way ) Federal magnum primers were recommended for just about everything. As time has gone on..there has been more experimentation with 'lower impact' primers and pistol primers... apparently with varying degrees of success. Suffice to say if I can't obtain BR2's, then Federal match..either mag or standard LR would be my next choice. As Don said.. it looks like you've happened upon a key ingredient for a sweet combination. Wish we could get that O.E. over here though Sad

I started with Fed.G.M. LRP's 15 yrs. ago then they became unavailable ,then spotty at best.I inadvertently bought some of the magnums and never used them until today.I am going to order some more, the regular ones are not available again but the magnums are.

Over years have used plenty Fed 215 Mag. (less $$) Primers in 45-70 loads. One thing to note is they have coating and seems to cover the flash hole so powder is less likely to sift in to primer. I.E. without paper wad inside case or in primer pocket. My best loads produce single digit SD velocity wise with these hot Feds. GM match only means bit extra eyeball on production lines should be more better ;-)

Good to know that the 215's work well I have some those that were given to me a while ago.
