RE: Wiping technique
I hope it works well for you. I like wiping much more than blow tubing. Another thing to experiment with is the type of patches to use. I did a test where I took a bunch of different patch brands, made a stack of ten of each and weighed them dry vs saturated with water. Some patches hold a lot more water than others. The new Arsenal patches held the least, and the big Shiloh 3" cotton ones held by far the most.
Most of the time I am using 2" square cotton ones as they are easy to get locally, but when shooting in warm temps ( 85+ ) I like those big 3" ones.
Chris.

RE: Wiping technique
An interesting cleaning technique (new to me) observed at ALMA, Mi. Silhouette match yesterday. Fellow had cut a groove in handle end of his Delran cleaning rod. It was positioned so as the tip was popping patch out muzzle a knot of cloth tied round the groove had entered the chamber. Thus when a wet patch went forth the chamber received a drying twist from the cloth knot. Some operator adjustment may have been required. But it saved time while rifle was on line banging steel.

RE: Wiping technique
Thanks men, lots of good ideas,I am confident now that should be able to come up with an effective method of wiping the bore,Any reason I can't use a .40 cal rod in a 45 cal bore ?

RE: Wiping technique
If you have a nylon brush screwed in, it won't matter.

RE: Wiping technique
went to the range today, trying the wiping venue in the 45-90. First I tried one wet, one dry, push it thru drop it off the rod. After several scattered shots, I went to 2 wet, one dry, smaller group, but not ok. Finally, with 3 rounds left, I did one wet down, but not out, then back to the chamber, then push it out. Then a dry one.
Now we're talkin! Three shots touching at 200 yds.
I wiped the chamber with a chamber swab before chambering a round each time.
Eighty-five grains of 1.5 Swiss cleans out nice with 6:1 NAPA mixture and 2" arsenal patches.
Never too old to learn !
Jim
That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!

RE: Wiping technique
I use both the old arsenal patches and the 2 1/4 inch square Pro-Shot Cotton Flannel Patches. Jury is still out which one is actually the best, but, at a match next week I will probably use the PROSHOT
