Powder measuring?
This may sound dumb but bear with me I am still learning.
I keep seeing refrences to folks weighing charges as opposed to loading by volume. Does it make that big of a difference? I ask because in my volume measure 70gr by volume weighs 74.3gr on the beam scale, just wondering which would be better or which is more prefered.

Fair enough gents sounds good to me. Be fore I checked back here I took a trip to the garage to play. I loaded one 45-70 with 70gr of weighed powder seated a .02 card wad checked the column and was able to seat a Lyman 457125 to my rifles prefferd engagement with 0 compresion. Guess I will have to start load work up all over again ooh the agony lol.

The last of my Goex 2f. Need to make a run to the store tomorrow and pick up some more. This old rifle has a chamber 2.2" long so bullets hang way out there before the touch the rifling.

Oh I have no doubts that you are right. With 70gr volume I get .2 compression so will have to play and see what happens. The joys of old guns a constant reason to tinker.

Hi JR,
I tell ya, bein a bit anal and unable to shoot often enuf, I did lotsa readin, probly way past where I shoulda. As puzzled as I still am, I've accepted what the rifle's shown me so far. But this one thing I do...my beam sits right behind the thrower and drop tube, so everything I throw gets weighed too. Hardly any extra time or trouble. And if yer coffee filter wadding over primer, don't forget it's in there lest you return a bad measure into the thrower and bugger it.
(Mine seems to like 68 for everything wh/ I don't understand. Maybe the barrel harmonics dictate? And that for larger slugs the added compression required does a corresponding compensation? Fascinating.)

I weigh to only set my MVA, P/M.
The weight with BP may vary just a bit. But the volume/compression is always the same.
I'm use'n OLD "E", 2F.
