Keep after that gal Rick. And teach her not to step on all that good brass too Smile

Brass isn't a problem! Fellow that owns the range brings his aircraft to my son for it's yearly annual inspection and Brandon does not charge him any labor so we have barrels of brass available!Big Grin

RE: Knock me over with a feather!
Hi Kurt, What might it be about a woman putting up with one man for 50+ years that gets them ta thinkin about trying handguns;-) My lovely better half and I passed the 50th too and she also indicated new interest in wielding a handgun. Could be sign of the times no doubt but I am also pleased and proud to enable my partner. Fortunately I have good friend that owns an appropriate emporium & range establishment. Just to make it easier on and let wife sample independent points of view we signed her up for Woman's only NRA Basic firearms course. She passed that course and when it came time to select from all the handguns she was introduced to firing she indicated the Autos were to hard to pull the slide etc. No problem as you I went to the Bat Cave safe downstairs and retrieved a few wheel types. What fit her 5 foot tall frame and hands is a Ruger Securiy Six with 3 inch barrel in .357. It took no time at all to press together a few boxes of Light 357. I.E. 125 gr Berry's copper clad in 357 cases but at 38 Special load level. We have since enjoyed several indoor range sessions (she received a range qualification card right off). Might be her use of old feelings about former profession as secretary but she can place all here shots in middle of sheet of printer paper at mid and full length of the indoor range. After a session she hands me the box or two of empties with instructions to refill same ASAP ;-)
PS I have the Ruger LC9S in 9mm , it trigger pull is better. When out for evening in dark places it is filled with Speer Gold Dot +P short barrel HPs. These pills according to research make that little steel gat all that it can be. Might not be regular diet but if it has to go to real work not a problem. BTW There are larger magizines that fit this little piece. For carry with the larger spare I have 16 solutions total at hand.

Oh man, I don't know. Huh Maybe it's the Momma Bear thing protecting her cub. Undecided Smile She sees us getting a little gimpy with pains and not moving as fast as we used to. Smile
Carol already said she would load her ammo..for this. I guess I will get the Hornady progressive from under the bench and see how she gets along with it.
That slide on the 9mm is a bear for her to pull even palming it. I don't have a handgun that really fits her except the Judge but it is a .45 Colt and she takes a step back when she shoots it. If I was to pack one it would be the judge with the first round a .410 shell with #4.
The S&W has the N frame even with the small stock on it it's to large for her hands. The auto's are set up for target.
Tomorrow we will pick up the .22 Ruger. It's the same size as the SR9C only a .22. It's a good get me home caliber also.

Kurt

Get Carol to wear a leather glove on her left hand if she shoots right-handed until the left toughens up a bit! She should be able to rack the slide pretty good with the glove on!! Also....put enough lubriplate on that weapon to make it 'greased pig swrick'!!

Rick she shoots with the wrong hand like you do Smile
I have a OD tube of Silicone grease like I used on the M-60. and lubed the slide rails and the bottom of the slide where the hammer rubs and it does help.
Good idea on the glove. We will see if we can find a good tight soft Deer hide or pig skin glove.

I shoot off left shoulder with rifle and right hand with the pistol! All of my left bicep muscle has been shot away at age 19 and right arm is a good bit stronger to hold a pistol up! No bother shooting the rifle as the left eye is the MASTER eye!Big Grin

RE: Knock me over with a feather!
Well Carol got her second new shooter today. Like I said the Walthers stayed at the gun shop after reading all the reviews. It pays to get on the internet and look up reviews and U-Tube. he .22 Walthers has functioning problems and even the gun shop after we swapped out said some of his customers had to send them back in for repairs.

This morning we picked up the Ruger SR-22. Last Saturday the shop got a couple more new ones in that are now Factory equipped with three magazines instead of two and they also added a case in the box.

Again it is raining again this morning but carol said it's range time to see how this works. Smile I love this gal Smile

I had a .30 cal ammo box full of different types of shells test the function of this little shooter. All of the ammo Carol ran through this pistol functioned with out a flaw. She emptied 5 50 round box and a bunch od Fed Target in the bulk box, all functioned with out a failure. Even the Remington Target I got back in the early 80's worked the slide.

It shot low and right about 3" and I did not have a screwdriver that fit and I did not want to use my pocket knife so I just let her shoot mainly to see how it functioned but she did a fine job holding off. I got to shoot 10 rounds on paper using a wrist support to check the accuracy. I held on a 1" white pastor and a 10 shot group at 20 paces held a silver dollar group.

When we finished with the paper targets we went to the knockdown 8" plates. They are a little heavy for a rimfire and just wiggle with a low hit but above center hits they will lay down. Carol made 7 shots out of 10 shots hit on them.

I think the SR-9 Ruger will take a rest for a while. I might confiscate the 9mm. I sure like it. I never had much use for a hand gun. Did a lot of bulls eye match shooting and held high master doing it but they took the back seat to the rifles.

Sounds like you're about to create a monster. Smile

On the silicone thing go down to the Chevy garage and get some of the grease they put on the electric window tracks. Eddie gave me a tube of that stuff, and it is sliiiiiiick.
