RE: Best brass for Shiloh
Ok Mike. Will begin again tomorrow with some lanolin and do just that. Checked to see whether I was leavin too much in the die but no--and they each krinkled all the way around from the first to the last. Was wonderin on the walk whether annealing would help but I'm gonna try this first. Thanks, Doug

RE: Best brass for Shiloh
Why can't you join Shiloh's forum. That makes no sense.
What are you using for a press?
Turn that size die down til it just touches the shell holder.
Get some sizing die lube, and stay away from the axle grease.
Who's reloading manual are you using?
See if this helps-

RE: Best brass for Shiloh
Well Don, No I didn't. Thanks. These were dry tho when I got them, but I'll clean 'em good.
Yes Lumpy, your link was where I went for their PDFs before I bought their press and dies. Always liked yer sig, and now I'm feelin like it. Dunno why I can't join their forum--even contacted the owners thru their site. Have read from others who waited a month to get on there. Press is set as you say.
Ok mike, I'll get some. Thanks

RE: Best brass for Shiloh
Of Dies and case lube. I have been reloading for many years and have learned a few things over the years about dies and case lubes. Most of what I have learned has been the hard way. First off, different case lubes do not, let me repeat that, Do NOT play well together. I have learned the hard way, if you change case lubes, clean your dies out very well, Alcohol is good or lacquer thinner. Usually a little lube will go a long way, if thing feel overly tight or sticky, something is wrong, take a step back, look things over and see if you missed something. When ever I get a set of dies out that have not been used in who knows how long, if I am not sure what was the last lube used in them I clean them and start from scratch.
My preference for case lubes these days and has been for a long time is the lube sold by Dillon and Frankfort Arsenal. It is Lanolin suspended in Alcohol and you just spray your cases and roll them around a little in a box and the alcohol will disappear leaving a film on the case. I also shoot some into the sizing die and let it dry. Yes occasionally I will get a dented case or shoulder but that can happen with most any lube.
A side benefit is the lanolin is good for your skin and its an all natural product.
Hope this helps a little.
Sam

RE: Best brass for Shiloh
Thanks Nuke,
Gonna drive to the gun shop and see what they have, what they say, and all with a mind to what everyone here has suggested. Did just clean the die w/ alcohol, and will also add that I was checking and swabbing the die b/t attempts. Will also go progressively with the pressing on each cartridge, with whichever lube I come home with (and probably lanolin based--like the idea of it bein w/ alcohol for evaporation and probable thinnest coating). Thanks everyone, Doug

RE: Best brass for Shiloh
Hi Don, All,
Well gun shop only had limited choices so left w/ Hornady One Shot. (Pre-loaded rounds f/ BACO had arrived while I was out and these, of course, fit the die easily.) The One Shot was still super tite, so had to back off the press about 10x while resizing and it worked--got a resized brass w/o any crimping/krinkling. Figure once I fire form these they'll be ok. Thanks all, Doug
