Hollow point

Thanks Rdnck, Kurt, Nuclear, and Dave. Looks like the hollow point is a more efficient killer on deer size animals than the solid point bullet, although there is more meat loss.

Dave do you plan on using a hollow point bullet for hunting anymore or have you seen enough?

Stephen--A flatnosed bullet with a .250-.260 meplat is the best all around hunting bullet in my opinion. It imparts a lot of shock to the animal, and generally passes straight through leaving a good blood trail which is usually very short. The 480 grain paper patched bullet you made me is just about perfect. It is accurate out to 600 yards and does not leave a lot of bloodshot meat. Just a hole in and a hole out and a dead animal. Absolutely superior to a hollow point. Shoot straight, rdnck.

Hi Stephen. I'll continue to use hollow points in my 4570 But remember this is relative to my specific situation
Light body critters 140 pounds for Whitetails and 180 for pigs.
Hunting them immediately next to blackbrush thickets is the situation
If I find something that would anchor them in their tracks I would use that (modern centerfires do that) and i use them as well
If I were on open ground with bigger critters flat nosed slugs would be the choice specially at extended range
I'll keep experimenting on hollow point style to find the most effective, we have plenty of hogs for testing

I agree with you Bill! The 490 grain 45 bullet that I hunt with is an excellent killer. The last antelope buck I killed with it ran 40
Yards and piled up.

Dave I understand what your hunting in. Lots of thick brush that's nasty to walk and track in.
