RE: Canoe Paddle
Thats good Don, its not something I had ever thought about but when I read your last post, for some reason that question just seemed to pop in to my head. Some day I would like to have a hepburn, not sure if I want to get one all ready put together or get one of the action kits and do the bulk of the fitting and finishing work my self. I am not sure if I really need a hepburn to round out the collection of period style of rifles but I do think that it would be nice to have one none the less. I have a Shiloh, a roller, a highwall ( well pretty much of one, its a custom Browning 78) and a CPA 44 1/2. The other delima woudl be what caliber to have it in, I have a 38, a 40, 44 and 45. I dont have any desire for a 50 but do have a nice remington #1 roller action that would make a good 50.
So many choices and so little money.

I hear ya. I just didn't think I'ld like this rifle all that much, but did sort of need one to have for and example. With 2 rollers, 4 sharps, 3 hi walls, 2 lowalls, 3 CPA 44/12's and an original 44, that hepburn was just something we didn't already have.... But I got to say the thing handles much better than I thought it would.
We need something in the weenie gun category, but not enough to break down and order anything... A 32-40 Ballard might be nice if a Schuetzen craze should happen I suppose Undecided

RE: Canoe Paddle
don,
those side levers are probably the best action for prone shooting.
certainly better than under levers.
the roller is good for prone, but is less convenient and slower than a side lever.
the falling block is also very strong.
the brits were into side levers a lot for long range rifles and also for hunting.
think deeley and edge, and farquarson, among others.
your loads sound promising.
if you droptube the case full enough to seat a wad and start a compression stem in the case, how much will it hold?
the 40/72 will hold 84 to 85 gns of swiss 1.5 and 1.0, so the 1.5 case might hold 80 gns?
if you compress that 1/8" to 1.5" and seat that pp bullet on it you are talking long range as well as mid range.
another bullet that might shoot long range is the baco kidwell bullet.
all the best with the project.
keep safe,
bruce.

Bruce these cases will take 70 grs of the Eysnford 1.5. I haven't tried any swiss in it yet.
I think this money bullet and the snover and possibly the saeco 740 could all work at 1000, but with my 44's and 45's I didn't really buy this for anything other than midrange and silhouettes.

Don when your ready to look for a "weenie" gun, slip on over to the ASSRA site. There is often some very nice stuff for sale over there. A low wall in 25-20 just sold, very nice wood, swill butt plate, action and barrel needed to be finished and it came with a bunch of extra goodies. But often times there are most any type of actions available. Even the occasional Ballard and other things as well.
