Canoe Paddle
Big Grin Should get the new canoe paddle next week. Have a small handful of rounds loaded with the 415 gr 396 money bullet wrapped in seth colle and setting on top of a thick napa wad, over 66 grs of KIK 1.5 all tidied up nicely in those shiny new Jamison 40-70 cases.Cool

This is the rifle.

Haven't got to shoot it much with the weather being on and off and all the other things we've got going on.
But the first loads didn't really do anything to get me real excited.
Have a good selection of loads to test as time and weather permits, so hopefully I find something that will work well shortly.

Be sure to include details of the loads you find worth shooting again. Maybe your canoe paddle can teach my highwall a thing or two... Shoot sharp, Mike

I would like to find something respectable, pretty quick there's a silloutte match at Watkins on 12/5 that might be in the realm of possibility for me if the weather and all cooperates.

Good luck to you in that silhouette match. I've got one on the 13th. Most of my shooting so far with the .40/70 SS has been with the Saeco 370 grain bullet but I'll try to use the 400 grain RCBS bullet on the rams. Shoot sharp, Mike

I've got that Saeco 410 gr bullet coming.
Will have to see if I can get something going with this rifle.

Nice rifle!
I think you will really like the Hepburn.
The 40-70 st. is a great cartridge, a little finicky at times.but a great cartridge.

Bob I think this thing will be alright. I really like the way it handles. I think the cartridge will shoot alright, just going to have some good weather to test it out.

RE: Canoe Paddle
Don, it is a nice looking paddle and best of luck with it. If however. you find it not to your liking I will take pity on it and give it a home in my safe. Even if it means that I have to toss out one of my old Siamese mausers to make room for it. I would just hate to see it setting someplace where it felt unliked and unwanted.
