RE: 40-65 trapdoor.....of sorts!!
There is just something about a Gemmer conversion. It don't matter if it's a sharps or trapdoor or what ever. It's just perfect for hunting with a rod and all!! Mike is right! it needs a patch box.
Good work Gus.
I been looking at my 74 Hartford .44-77 thinking about adding a rod. It is a hunting rifle.

RE: 40-65 trapdoor.....of sorts!!
Kurt, I have had my .50/90 Gemmer for 35 years and in that time the rod on that rifle has been used only two or three times. And at least two of those times the rod was used to help another rifle. Of course, I haven't carried only my Gemmer, and, in fact, it has become the camp gun more often than the primary hunting rifle. On the other hand, you might be able to remember several times when you would have used the rod, if you had it... Shoot sharp, Mike

Mike.
Only one time I wish I had a rod with me. It was on a Buffalo hunt up in ND. with my .44-90bn Hartford where I scrwed up having two different loads in my pocket. One tight and one loaded for a follow up shot if needed. Well I reached in the wrong pocket and got a tight one and it would not chamber and I didn't carry a cartridge camming tool either. But when it was all done I didn't need a second shot because he staggered about 50 yards and dropped.
But it could have been a different story.
You maight never use it, but it sure is nice when you need it, it's there.

Kurt, Yes, having something you don't need is far, far better than needing something you don't have! Shoot sharp, Mike

I didn't say I'd shoot it in the match (I don't think it would qualify as an original trapdoor for that group, maybe the set triggers would be too much modding (:>)))) the 2.6 is the one I shoot...it's loud enough, ask Kurt. Next to his 50 it isn't all that loud however
28", 16 twist Green Mtn barrel
