Gentlemen,
Most amusing.... I think the worst one I had was a Priority package from my place in NC to Georgia, and it took SIX WEEKS for it to make the trek! I could have literally walked the route with the package, dropped, it off, and been back weeks before it arrived at the other other end!
Seriously, as bad as it is here, friends have relatives in Italy, and there postal theft by employees is a way of life. There you HOPE someone doesn't need or want what you have, as it will simply disappear... Even if you send it their equivalent of registered....
But, I agree that we can and should do better. Mail ran really well in the 1920's and '30's, we had morning and evening delivery... And all that on penny postage...
Coming to think of it, SAA's were still made then, Webley revolvers were relatively cheap, and no one wanted Sharps rifles, Springfield Trapdoors, Remington Rolling Blocks, or Henry rifles in .44 Henry Flat.
