RE: Bore solvents
I have had good luck using Montana x-treme blackhorn 209 cleaner not only with blackhorn 209 but with all my lead bullet loads. Their bore conditioner is very good too.

RE: Bore solvents
It seems in an effort to make money, a company always has to try to make a better wheel....then they spend thousands in advertising trying to convince us that there "way overpriced" wheel is somehow "Round'er, just cause it cost 3 times as much....lol.
I have tried just about everything and they all work pretty well.. From homemade elixers to the Shiloh Creek stuff, Kroil, Gunzilla, Montana X, Ballistol, etc, and just about every other lead, fouling, carbon remover, water based, blackpowder, and seasoning crap you can think of.
I feel it is all just a bunch of fancy, high price stuff you can do without.
For wiping, and getting the bulk of the fouling right after a match...Soluble oil and water is all you need. Napa cutting oil (water soluble) is WAYYYY better than Ballistol/moose milk/alchohol concoctions.
For solvent, (the original wheel) Hoppes No.9 is about as good as it gets.. Yeah I know, petro...but it works. And no it doesn't make tar or cause hard fouling. And good ol' Turpentine stips lead about as good as anything and it's cheap! (No.9 strips lead pretty fair too)

RE: Bore solvents
There is a lot of truth in what Freedom wrote. The old methods are as good as any on the market today(at a much higher cost). If you need to condition the bore whats wrong with the same as you lube your bullet with??????

RE: Bore solvents
Don
As the old saying goes, There is more than one way to skin a cat. So that said I believe there is more than one way to get the same end results. I am blessed with living in a dry climate, so what works for me may not work for someone living in Florida. I have for years cleaned BP guns with water and Napa water soluable oil mixture. I finish up with a HM solution called ED's Red. Before shooting I run 2 dry patchs through bore and then one patch with a little bullet lube on it. This has worked for me. Shooting conditions in winter are often 20 degrees and in summer 90 + degrees with low humidity. I also use a blow tube. Do not wipe between shots. I am not saying I never foul out ,but my troubles are minimal.
Regards
Brownie

Brownie Brownie that's one of the nice things about most areas of the shooting sports, there's really no wrong or right way to do things, rather it's if it works for you and you get the results you want then why bother to change?
But on the other hand if there's some things that aren't necessarily working for you , then it's sort of nice to know there are other ways of getting the job done..
