RE: Paper
Don that link doesn't work for me, but I'm guessing it's this paper?

http://www.utrechtart.com/Utrecht-Tracin...39.utrecht

I'll have to order some and give it a try. Mind you, the 8 lb Seth Cole I've go works so well there isn't really any need to change it.

A while back I picked up a few pads at Staples to try. I think the paper was made by Beinfang. It was around 0.002" thick. It might work well wrapped dry, but when wrapped wet, it sort of glues itself together so that it doesn't come off at the muzzle. I don't know what it's made of, but it's weird stuff.

RE: Paper
Chris , yup that Utrecht is the stuff .

What I got at Staples is Staedtler 8lb lightweight tracing paper.
Hopefully it just sets here and I don't ever run out of the Seth Cole..

RE: Paper
Hi Kurt:

Thanks for the data !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the hunting versus target loads i do load them differently for the exact reasons you mention-----as a matter of fact the the major difference is --------paper thickness !!!!----------

Currently i use stuff from the local Hobby Lobby--------"Masters Touch tracing---0.0017/0.0018 on my mic, and Strathmore tracing at 0.0015/0.0016 again measure with a certified mic

Don------i haven't ordered the Ultrect you mentioned earlier------------i'll serch a bit more on papers that are currently available before i lock in a selection

Seems there is some "Alvin" (sp) tracing and vellum that show various cotton contents-------i'll make a round of the art stores and drafting supply folks around houston pretty soon and see what measurements i can find.

Thanks for the feedback

Dave

RE: Paper
Hi folks, continuing the paper patch investigations i decided to try to attempt to get the standard Shiloh chamber to act more similar to a "tight" Paper Patch chamber-----------i have a friend that had a variety of 45 caliber basic brass and some 45/120 cases, so i talked him out of them to trim to 45-70 length in an attempt to get brass with a case larger case mouth wall thickness----the results are tabulated below:

Old Reliable--------------0.009/0.010

45 Basic BB--------------0.011/0.012

Norma 45-120------------0.014/0.015

Bell 45 Basic--------------0.014/0.015

my regular RP brass measure 0.009/0.010

Full length sizing and fire forming next--------the resulting cases should accept a 0.450/0.451 patched bullet with a case mouth diameter of 0.478/0.480

Range report to follow

Hope i get an incease in accuracy and consistency

RE: Paper
The Norma stuff should reduce the flyers I suspect. It did for me, although with standard GG chambers I still get best accuracy with a lube cookie in addition to the thicker brass.

RE: Paper
The loads i currently use in "regular" brass have worked well, lube cookie with appropriate wads we'll see if this tightens things up a bit---it makes sense from a "fit" circumstance for sure.

One thing i notice is of course less case capacity, so some slight increase in compression will occur seems the cases will still allow 80 grain of 1 1/2 as a practicle upper limit---i may shorten the wad stack about 0.060 to keep compression at the same level as current loads
